Stinky guts

Our new 8 month old pup arrived this week. He is gorgeous! So well behaved too.

But he is farting like a good 'un. To the point where I think he has had an accident. But it always turns out to be noxious gaseous emissions.

He is on a dry diet...that applaws kibble. Treats are clean and healthy eg salmon skin and sea biscuits. All healthy.

So do we just simply have a smelly pup??

There is a horses for courses element here, no one dog food is the best for all dogs. Applaws is great, but may not suit your dog. Though I would first try getting rid of the salmon treats, in my canine fish always results in the worst wind.

Fish does terrible things to my dog's digestion too....

Sounds like a change in food is in order - the smell from our dog on some (hypoallergenic) foods is amazing. On grain free, and no turkey component he's fine

SpicyPear · 25/01/2014 09:27

Would definitely try other grain free foods as a first port of call. Or a raw diet if you're set up for it.

It's cleared up on its own...hurray. Vet checked him over too.

Could this be anal glands op, do they need looking at and is he anxious possibly.

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay · 26/01/2014 09:23

In general with smelly guts in dogs it can be the gut flora that is at fault. A little sachet from the vet which is made of the freeze dried gut contents of slaughtered cattle (TMI sorry!) a pinch a day on the food for a week or so can put them right.

Thanks for the tips. A bit whiffy again today.

Our pup is always very fragrant on foods with fish or chicken. Switched to a food without and cleared up straight away.
