Help me name my puppy!

Maybe I should put this in baby names? Anyway she is red coated, and has a temperment to match. We are completely stuck. At least, we have a list but nothing fits, even though the names are nice in themselves. She is a pretty puppy but will be quite an elegant rough coated adult dog.

Harlow (Jean Harlow)
Bette (Bette Davis)
Gilda (Rita Hayworth role)
Blaze
Ashley
Nuri/Nuria apparently means fire in Arabic

Maggie

DorothyGherkins · 19/01/2014 22:27

Daphne Dog

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 22:29

Rita is on the shortlist, as I do love Rita Hayworth.( Slightly put off by her sad later life though). Acer is my friend's son so can't use that. Fern as a nn for inferno is good! Ditto Etna. I am slightly daunted by training her as she is very wild! Is this a bitch thing? When DH dries her paws after garden trips (our garden looks like the Somme) she protests loudly and violently... I've always had terriers so can deal with wildness but only had boys until now. She bites everything, and tries to swallow it..carpet, any sort of plant, and today small glass light bulbs as she found the Christmas tree lights. Luckily I have been close by on all occasions but she is terrifying. And fast. I've just ordered a stack of training books off Amazon as my skills are very rusty and I think she will be a challenge to say the least.

I like LadyTurmoil's suggestion of Bette (betty) (as in Bette Davis).

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 22:32

Gilda and Bette are already on the shortlist, can't have Daphne as is another friend's dog. Nuri is nice. Maggie is my next door neighbour. Its so hard to choose! We've had her a week now, so really do need to decide.

MartyrStewart · 19/01/2014 22:34

Pepper :)

tobytoes · 19/01/2014 22:34

Ah just realised its a girl....not really a girly name.

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 22:38

I met Bette Davis. She was certainly feisty!

Eris? Goddess of chaos and discord?

hellymelly · 19/01/2014 22:45

Grin that is good thislittlepiggy. Hadn't heard of her.

It's also the name of a dwarf planet (briefly classified by NASA as the tenth planet, until it was demoted along with Pluto). Just for information, in case any of the family have an interest in Space. We briefly considered it for our puppy, who ended up with a different planetary name courtesy of our Space-loving dd :) Thankfully, the chaos and discord phase didn't last too long for us, hope you have similar luck!

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 19/01/2014 23:00

Rusty? Ruby? Let us know what u choose.

Aked · 20/01/2014 07:22

Ooh I like Eris!

LadyTurmoil · 20/01/2014 11:19

And when you've finished teasing us with all these names - a photo of the little darling, please Grin

hellymelly · 21/01/2014 10:31

Will post a pic today. Had an upsetting day yesterday as she had a scan which showed a congenital heart condition. Sad. So names went out of the window rather. Will upload a photo later.

Oh no Helly:( So sorry.

Thumbwitch · 21/01/2014 22:54

Oh no helly, that's a shame!
Maybe a name like Valkyrie, show she's a battler?

hellymelly · 21/01/2014 23:37

I like Valkyrie, that is a great name for a dog. Can't get photos of my 'phone now but DH will do it tomorrow, so you can all see her rather wicked (in the old gimmer sense) little face.

STILL not named! I am clearly rubbish owner. Don't know if all the stress of the heart thing has given me a mental block... Partly now have a nice selection of names, but every time I "choose" one, I think of the others. Nothing seems completely right. I am over thinking this aren't I? 'tis like a baby name. Anyway have tried and failed to load pictures, my computer doesn't seem to be downloading them properly from my 'phone, so have to load some onto drop box from my proper camera. Will do that asap.

Lucille
Rouge
ZsaZsa
Crimson

bridgetsmum · 29/01/2014 23:04

How about Enzo?
After Enzo Ferrari? A red Ferrari?

We have a beagle called Enzo

hellymelly · 29/01/2014 23:08

That's funny as I also thought of Lucille today. Wasn't it what BB King called his guitar? Lucille Ball started off as a blonde bomshell, and then went red later on. Crimson makes me think of King Crimson so can't hack that, and ZsaZsa too cute for her somehow, although great. Ideally I want something very British, although she is an Irish breed, so Irish would be ok.
