Sleeping arrangements

Hi
My dog arrived yesterday after a very long car journey which really stressed her out I think. When I went to go to bed she started barking and whining so I came and slept downstairs on the sofa. She woke up at 5.30am and had a wee and has been okay since then. My daughter has just got up so we'll take her out for a walk now. Do you think that by sleeping downstairs I'm going to reassure her enough to leave her down here on her own within a few nights or am I just setting her up to get used to me being down here?

Thanks

That's what we did with our pup when we got him in September - one of us slept on the dogs next to his crate in the kitchen/playroom

He only needed the reassurance for a few nights as now he's sleeping right through so I don't think you're setting yourselves up for a lifetime of sleeping next to your dog

That's great, thanks, I can cope with a couple more nights on the couch and can't bear to leave her when she's so distressed.
