I'm not only a fair weather walker really, took ddog (our first 8 month old lab pup) out for an hour last night after 6pm in the dark and pissing wind and rain, throwing a ball around for him and he loved it.

I can cope with, and even enjoy once I am out there, the walk in the rain. I am hating the 3 times a day wet dog, loads of wet smelly towels, and wet clothes, redoing hair (it goes scary frizzy after being out in rain and its struggling with straighteners being used at least twice a day). Washing machine seems to be constantly on.

I'm counting the sleeps until summer not Christmas! Grin

Cold and wet weather is the reason I have a cat Grin

I have a dog bed which goes in the car covered with microfiber tassels. The dogs come out much dryer and cleaner than when they get in. They get a swift polish with a car cleaning mitt with the same tassels when they first get in. The only problem then is the car is damper than the dogs!

My boy loves being wrapped up in an old beach towel when he's got really wet.
I have to tuck it in all around him, and he goers straight to sleep Grin

oldandcrabby. That bed sounds great, do you have a brand? Thanks

I have a spaniel which is supposed to be an active breed that needs a lot of exercise and stimulation.....? In reality he is very much like a big cat who loves nothing more than sleeping all day long, and stimulates himself by rearranging the cushions before plonking down for another long nap. If it's bad weather it can be incredibly hard to get him out of the door, he does the quickest wee/poo ever known to mankind in the garden and thenruns back to the couch

Do they come in sizes big enough for golden retrievers?
It's driving me to distraction. It's not the walking in bad weather, I don't mind that one bit, it's the zillions of towels that need washing and drying. Thank goodness for the tumble dryer.

Bramblesinforrin · 04/01/2014 20:06

Looks like they do. My retriever has a fluorescent water resistant coat for walks in the rain. He looks like a bin collection dog!

I've invested in really good water proof coat, over trousers and wellies for walking my dog with - part of the kit and I feel warm and dry so that he gets the exercise and fun he/we need.

I second wellies and seriously practical bad weather clothes. I am such a couch potato but feel invincible under about million fleeces and my big wellies and furry socks. Take a hip flask too if you are not working....

Our wee guy gets a bath most days.

If we bath him properly sometimes the towel just needs dried not washed.

I have a special pair of quilted waterproof trousers [ Aldi £11].They live on a hook in the bathroom between walks and get washed about once a week or less. :)
