Dog who refuses to do dark/wet/windy/cold weather

I have never known a dog like it. The pup point blank refuses to go outside after dark now that the weather has turned. He seems afraid of the wind, hates being wet or cold, and hides under the table if I try and make him go out. I have to physically carry him outside and stay with him in order to make sure he goes for a wee Hmm If I don't, he wees upstairs on the landing The spaniel wants to go on two hour, adrenaline fuelled jaunts regardless of the conditions, so the pup's refusal to leave the warm house is baffling. Anyone else with a fair weather dog? How do you entice them outside?

my dog is the same, but he does go out when he does really need to go to the toilet cos he knows at some point he will be taken out and left to go

Same problem here with 7 month old .
pisses me off hugely as he is bouncing off the walls with excess energy but show him his lead and he hides under the table .
You have my sympathy op :)

If its raining, then mine stares at his coat to be put on before he'll go out. And is wearing a fleece house coat because he's cold indoors.

If you have to take them out go out with a big wind proof umbrella, don't set them up to fail with bad habits that will continue into the good weather.

We had a dog that we had to have a torch at night time so she could walk in the torch light.

To be fair to the pup, he weighs 6kg and is more fur than flesh. The wind blows him all over the place. He shivers pathetically and dances on his back legs wanting to be picked up if he's wet and wears a t shirt in the house when he's cold. The trampoline cover is vibrating and I think it's spooked him.

My 5 month old pup hates the rain too and has to be shoved out the door for the toilet.

Mine was like that as a pup. I had stern words with him about being a native Irish breed so he should be immune to bad weather, but he ignored me.

He grew out of it and will go now out long enough for a wee and a quick sniff round the garden in most weathers.

lol sweetkitty I have an African too! and he hates rain and wind and would never ever walk in a puddle! He will go out in rain if he is desperate but he has to be forced Smile
My other old JRT girl who passed away earlier this year was the complete opposite, she loved rain, snow, thunderstorms and would always come back from a walk with dirty legs and dirty belly from all the puddles Grin

I have a fleecy coat for mine - he's a bit spooked by wind, doesn't like the dark, and isn't very impressed by the cold. Sometimes he gets to the end of the drive and then wants to go home again. I usually give in as it's a question of picking battles.

Our Goldie doesn't mind at all, but then he's got the thickest coat known to dogkind so I think he's never been cold in his life, and he positively relishes being wet and it would take a hurricane to blow him about.

I can imagine it freaking out little pups though.

I'm curious to know what these African breeds are. Rhodesian Ridgeback?

Weirdly our puppy doesn't like going out in the garden for a wee when it's dark and raining (got a bit spooked by a stray firework on a v wet evening a few weeks ago) but positively relishes wet, windy, icy walks - but then he is a Canadian breed so has a lovely thick coat which keeps him warm

Mine will not leave the house in inclement weather. She's 5 so I've given up forcing her.

If it's windy, raining and/or cold she won't even go out for a wee. She will hold it until she's practically dancing before finally dashing out, pissing 3 inches from the back door and dashing back in.

When it snows she has been known to keep all four feet inside and just hang her arse over the threshold.

If I walk her in the the rain, wind and/or cold she cries. Proper head down, tail tucked in, crying.

She's not even a small dog, she's 19kg of wuss!

I had a JR/Whippet cross who hated bad weather. She was from Yorkshire too, so you'd have thought she was used to it. She'd go out and do what she had to do almost immediately, she hated getting wet poor love. They're not daft are they?

The spaniel is very daft. He went swimming today and tried to drag home a tree.

Mine's exactly the same, had to be persuaded to go out today, even though daylight hours, still dislikes wet or windy weather. Fair-weather dog.

Same here and the recent weather is a pain in the backside of standing in the garden persuading a reluctant jrt to do a piddle and god forbid a pooh rather than on the carpet

I have a 4 month puppy, and I'm still going out with her in the back garden once it's dark, I'm there most evenings with my boots, brolly and torch. If I stay with her, she'll go after not too long, I wonder how old she can be before I can put her out and leave her knowing she'll actually go and not just wait until she comes back in.
I take comfort from thinking of all other puppy owners standing in the dark with their brollies too, but (at times) I do wish we'd waited until spring to get her!

Ours is a mountain dog, loves the cold, but does the quickest wee imaginable if it is raining, apparently mountain dogs don't do rain........

One of mine's just the same.
He'll hang on & hang on till he's virtually crossing his legs then gingerly step outside & pee against the planter that's right next to the back door, then dash back in. He's a Yorkie but obviously doesn't do our high Pennines weather....wimp.
My other little one, another Yorkie much smaller than him but made of sterner stuff will happily stay out till I have to go & fetch her, especially in snow, the deeper the better. She bounces around in it when it's so high over her head she disappears in the holes she makes.
My Skyes would live in the Arctic circle given the choice, what's the occasional foot or two of rain when you're enjoying yourself. Confused
