Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Excellent news! Must be such a relief Mistle.

Glad that your DD and Bob are getting on well Glitter, that's such a good idea with the feeding and grooming.

So today's off lead training involved her charging around like a crazed lunatic......omg they are bloody fast! Heart was in my mouth but she came back on the whistle and then happily charged off again. She was having so much fun bless her, lovely to see them like that Grin

PatTheHammer · 19/12/2013 18:58

Oh CMOT, meant to say do give me a shout if you have a spare morning/afternoon Xmas hols to let her chase CMOT dog around, would be great fun!

mistlethrush · 19/12/2013 19:03

Cmot.. should say, we are heading south on the 27th and north on the 31st....

Very relieved that there is nothing to worry about.

TooOldForGlitter · 19/12/2013 20:35

I meant to post the day this happened but its been busy here so didn't. DD was asked at school what had happened to her face and she explained to her teacher who then called me in for a 'chat' at hometime on Monday. She questioned my 'sense of responsibility' and my motivations for putting a ''mere animal above your child''. That was a fun 15 minutes I can tell ya Confused.

LostInWales · 19/12/2013 21:05

Mistle that's BRILLIANT Grin.

LadyTurmoil · 19/12/2013 21:14

TooOld God, I feel your pain - how awful that must have been with the teacher... bet you're glad it's the Christmas holidays now Smile How's your daughter?

TooOldForGlitter · 19/12/2013 21:30

I don't really blame the teacher. I suppose she felt she had a duty of care. Hmm. I did feel like the utter scum of the earth sitting there trotting out my 'excuse' and yet I know it isn't an excuse, more a factual version of unpleasant events, arf!

She is totally fine now thanks Smile.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/12/2013 21:45

I did think you might get some comments :(

Yay for mistlehound, glad all is well!

TooOldForGlitter · 19/12/2013 21:58

I was expecting it cinnamon but I won't pretend I didn't question myself afterwards. Still think we have made right choice though. Had it been out of the blue I would feel differently but I still feel a very new dog acted in a way I might do if I was relatively new, intimidated on my bed and then hurt. I guess we will see Hmm.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/12/2013 22:00

Tool my toe for their first road run today and they were pretty good. Lola stopped to try and eat every bit of rubbish and peanut dived into the road once but I just kept them on very short leads when a car was nearby. I was freaked out in the forest on my own with them last week so I didn't want to go on my own.

TooOldForGlitter · 19/12/2013 22:01

On the upside if anyone fancies looking at The Barka Lounge on facebook they will see my lovely Bob interacting with his new mates at daycare this week Grin. It will out me but meh, i'm not on the run or anything!

TooOldForGlitter · 19/12/2013 22:05

Bet that was fun cinnamon! Smile at Lola trying to eat rubbish, even more 'fun' for you to keep on top of that and manage Peanut i'm sure.

Scuttlebutter · 19/12/2013 22:15

Great news Mistle!! Excellent. You can relax and enjoy Christmas even more now.

mistlethrush · 20/12/2013 09:08

I sometimes used to run with Mistledog (previous not terribly pointy hound). She had a flexi lead - no chance of her going too fast to break it. She discovered that she could run ahead, and stop at the slice of pizza the students had left, have a quick couple of bites as I ran past her, then pick it up and run ahead and repeat... Xmas Grin

Mistlehound went at full pelt down the garden this morning despite boot covering bag over bandage - we'll have to start putting her on her lunge rein again to stop her damaging anything. I hope she hasn't - but she's not looking any more interested in chewing the bandage off after that than she was earlier, so I hope all is OK.

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2013 09:48

Brilliant news Mistle! We are only out christmas day and boxing day, so if you fancied a stop en route that would be ace, but only at my parents boxing day as its all too much for them.

Cmotdog runs with me along pavements and loves it. He's pretty good at not stopping to examine things, but still gets overexcited at seeing anyone in high vis due to our postmen bringing him dog biscuits and fuss and starts to bounce Hmm One of the downsides of living in a very small town is that loads of people tell me they saw me and the dog, and lorry drivers etc wave at us. I moan that earlier in my life if I went out in tight black lycra I'd get wolf whistled at - these days they just look at the dog

mistlethrush · 20/12/2013 09:52

Xmas Grin at the 'look at the dog'. I will work out whether we could drop in one way - I think we'll probably leave mistlehound with DH as she might well need another dressing change or stitches out or something. Of course, DH decided to take her for her appt on Weds as he couldn't cope with getting some biscuits out of the oven and sorting DS's tea and bed... so none of the questions I had (which I had told him) got an answer.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/12/2013 11:10

I usually take them in the forest CMOTDibbler so they can be a bit more all over the place! One bloke didn't move at all as I wrestled my two on the grass to get out of the way so as we passed I very loudly said 'you're welcome' after he hadn't even had the decency to thank me. We passed four dogs which lola went mad for, a cyclist which I was amazed she ignored as in the forest she loves them and three people walking alone (non of whom made any attempt to get out of my way :(

My dh can't cope with passing on information either mistlethrush!!!

LadyTurmoil · 20/12/2013 11:46

Was there someone interested in an older Whippet? www.battersea.org.uk/dogs/whisp_217927.html

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 20:18

So, do you all buy doggy Christmas presents? Dh says we should but we never have before and he hasn't mentioned it when we haven't.

mistlethrush · 21/12/2013 21:58

Mistlehound has a new squeeky toy and some biscuits to unwrap from a paper bag (or something else she can tear and open)

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 22:12

They've left all presents alone under the tree so far, I'm quite impressed!

TooOldForGlitter · 21/12/2013 22:22

I wish i'd taken a photo earlier, we had FIL over this morning for coffee and present swapping and he remarked on Bob being so 'good' leaving the tree/presents alone. Oh he's very good like that we trilled smugly....took FIL outside to show him the new pond and came back inside, after maybe 10 minutes, to find Bob wrapped in pink tinsel chewing DDs lovingly made tree decoration! Bastard!

mistlethrush · 21/12/2013 22:23

We had one Christmas where our, then, new dog opened all the Christmas presents during Midnight Mass... Quite a few of them had small indentations too.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 22:30

I had a couple of test presents I knew wouldn't be damaged and weren't ds's so no surprises ruined and they left those so I've put the rest under. The tree troubles we have are tails when they get excited!

We all went out together today for a walk and I had to pick up the signs from this mornings parkrun so took a detour on my own. Lola was straining at the lead crying for me to come back!

MuttonCadet · 22/12/2013 08:55

We're taking ours back to the kennels this morning because they're having a visit from Santa-paws and she has been a very good girl.
