Spoiling fat jack at the minute, don't think she realises he's gone yet, they had 11 years together.I've had a week to get used to it and it helps knowing it was the right thing to do. I'm not really a sentimental old sod but posted really to let people know that sometimes the hardest thing to do is certainly for the best. Not all dogs die of old age in their sleep, sometimes we have to make that desicion for them. Read lots of posts by people agonising over whether to pts or not at the end of the day its the last kindness you can show a faithful friend. My thoughts are with anyone who has had to do this recently or is making the hard choice at the minute.

Flowers Even if you're not sentimental, you deserve thanks for your wise words.

Carry on spoiling fat Jack! Smile

furbaby · 04/12/2013 21:01

Thinking of you . Poor fat jack hope that she is ok when she realises she has lost her buddy .
its so unfair that so few dogs just die in their sleep and we have to help them move onto their next life Thanks

1MitchellMum · 05/12/2013 12:28

Awww, really sorry. A good long life but it's never long enough. x

Owllady · 05/12/2013 16:45

I agree with you row and I don't know of any dogs that have died in their sleep:( my friend always says it's better to do it a week too early than a week too late and I do agree tbh
I am sorry, it's very hard xx

sewingandcakes · 05/12/2013 16:53

It's such a horrible decision to have to make, I really feel for you.

I remember the last walk with ours to the vet, and holding her as the light left her eyes. Bringing a tear to my eye now and it was 3 1/2 years ago.

Thanks
milkybarsrus · 05/12/2013 20:40

I'm a first time dog owner, and already dread 'that' day. I never new how animals could make you feel so attached to them. So my thoughts are with you during your loss.

TooOldForGlitter · 06/12/2013 22:19

Thinking of you. Remember the good (and the, wtf did you just do!) times. X

ADishBestEatenCold · 07/12/2013 20:56

I'm not really a sentimental old sod

Course your not Rowgtfc Wink and Smile

Just posted to say that, in very recent times, I have been where you are now. It's hard.

Really hard. Then I remember those wonderful years with my girl. I earned this hard time and it was worth it.

Best thoughts to you and your 'maddest best Jack Russell'. Thanks

Rowgtfc72 · 09/12/2013 07:21

Fat jack spent two days round my ankles an off her food but has now gone back to spending her time outside in their kennel. I had a couple of wobbly days. But have come to the conclusion he had sixteen good years isn't suffering any more and I had the privilege to know him for fourteen of those. And I get to chuckle at my less than girly dog currently sat. Glaring at me in a lovely sparkly pink collar dd picked for her!Xmas Grin
