Should I get my dog seen by a vet?

This morning my dog (5 year old lab) has been his usual happy self when I fed him, but about 5 minutes after eating his breakfast he vomited it all. Has been fine afterwards, took him on his usual walk, no problems. At lunchtime gave him a dentastix, but again, about an hour later this time, it came back up. His behaviour hasn't changed, stomach not swollen. He is due another meal about six o'clock.
I am not an experienced dog owner, Larry is my first dog and I've had him for just over a year now. What to do?

I would phone up but expect they'll say bring him in; knowing labs he's got something dodgy down there, will need an X-ray to be sure.

Thanks, lljkk, I think I will do that, cause if he's sick again after dinner I don't think I would be happy to leave it overnight...

I wonder if he has eaten his food too quickly, which has made him vomit? Perhaps give him his meal tonight in 2 separate portions to try and slow his eating down.

Labradors can suffer with bloat which can be extremely serious, but if he is acting completely normally then it is unlikely to be this.

Is there is a possibility that he has eaten something that he shouldn't have done that has caused a blockage?

Or it could be a gastroenteritis type bug, which will normally clear by itself.

As he is otherwise seeming well in himself, I think I would not necessarily go to the vet today, but if he is still vomiting tomorrow then definitely take him.

chocolatelime, when he vomited after breakfast I thought it was because he's eaten too quickly, but when it happened again after just one dentastix that's when I got worried...
I didn't know dogs can get tummy bugs!
And, well there always is a possibility that he's eaten a sock or something, he does like to pick them up, doesn't normally chew them, but with a silly lab like him you never know...
Anyway, I have phoned the vet and they had an appointment available at six o'clock tonight, I think it will put my mind at ease if he's seen today :)

I hope that all went well at the vets and your lab is feeling much better! So worrying when they are unwell. If the problem is being caused by him eating too fast, there are special bowls to prevent them from doing this. Very common with a greedy lab!

Given the opportunity, my labs will also indulge in a spot of bin raiding - and we always have to manage the fall out the following day

Yes, the very didn't seem to worried, grave him an anti sickness injection and Sao to feed him light meals for a couple of days. He seems a bit subdued to me today and is not really drinking (although I've put water in withhis good and he lapped that up). I think he might be sulking cause he's not getting his usual food

Good news that the vet seem unconcerned and hopefully it will pass in a couple of days. Boiled chicken and rice can be a good dinner that is easier on the stomach. Sometimes think that the dogs get better treatment than the rest of the family in our house!

Another little trick I use to encourage them to drink water is to put a tiny amount of milk, a couple of spoonfuls which literally just colours the water and they normally will drink that enthusiastically. Just be careful not to over do it with the milk though as dairy products are not ideal with an upset tummy.
