Eye infection should I go to vet asap?

Trying to be a bit less Pfd about the ewok but she's woke up with a goopy eye that looks red. I've bathed it in boiled water and Cotton wool pads so looks better but should I just try to do that for a day or so before going to vets or will she need antibios so try to get into vets asap?

I would. Maybe add a tiny amount of bicarb to remove any 'stuck' bits.

My TTs sometimes get the odd gloopy eye (I think its due to their long fur)and a good bathe sorts it..

I usually use cold used wet tea bags if my dogs' eyes are gloopy, though sometimes have had to visit the vet. If my dogs have anything like that midweek which doesn't look too bad then I leave it a day ... if it's Friday then I'm more likely to visit the vet if I think it may get worse (though at least now our vets are open for a short while on Sat & Sun mornings).

Get some "infected eyes" drops from the chemists (don't tell them it's for your dog, they're not allowed to sell for animals). It's the same stuff as the vet will give you - chloramphenicol - at the same strength and about 40 quid cheaper Grin

Floralnomad · 13/11/2013 12:28

I'd go to the vet ,eyes are not something to be messed with .

Lonecatwithkitten · 13/11/2013 13:04

Actually we rarely prescribe chloramphenicol now days. Eyes I would always get checked to rule out an ulcer as certain types of ulcer can rapidly deteriorate if not treated correct.
