He's six months old and mad as a box of frogs but he never barks. He had a couple of half hearted barks a couple of months ago and scared the life out of himself but nothing since. He's quite snorty hence him being affectionately known as pigdog and I am in no way desperate for a dog that barks constantly but I just wondered if this is normal?

my next door neighbour has a 3.5yr old black lab and he hardly barks too, in fact in that time, i've only heard him bark twice, so maybe it is normal!

My lab x collie didn't bark for months. She only occasionally barks now and is just over the year.

Consider yourself lucky, mine does Smile. Sometimes it can take a lab til adolescence to find their voice. Make the most of the peace.

Our 7 month old lab has barked about 8 or 9 times, each time it's been just one bark then he stops like he's not sure where the noise came from.

Some dogs aren't barkers. Some take a while to find their "voice". Not something to worry about though afaik. Jealous of 6mo lab pup though!

He is amazing rachy :)

Our five year old lab doesn't really bark. Once in a blue moon, he'll do it and scare the living daylights out of himself and all of us (usually at about 11pm when dh is away...)

He does bark at kennels though apparently - peer pressure and all that.

Labs are not usually big barkers. Mine didn't bark at all until he was about 8 or 9 months old. He is 9 years old now, and does sometimes bark, but nowhere near as much as my cocker spaniel does. She will kick off if anyone comes to the door. My lab only barks at the door if someone rings the bell or knocks whilst he is next to it waiting to go for his walk. Otherwise he doesn't bother.
