Tried the telly loud and being cool about it but she's lying on me (so not like her she's not a cuddle monster) and she's really panting, I'm letting her lie on me but trying to ignore and not fuss her. Feel like I've ballsed up but I really didn't know how she'd react now I know I'll have to do better next year

Just reassure her that youre there, find something that smells of you and pop it in her bed if she goes in there, and buy one of those plug in things (Like Feliway for cats) they are really good for relaxing them with stressful events and noises :)
And you haven't ballsed up!

It's' ok to comfort a scared pup, fear is an emotion, you can't reinforce it and they can't help it. If stroking her helps, do it.

Close all the curtains, lots of noise in the house, comfort without making a drama out of it. That's what we do with our big boy lab who starts shaking at the first 'pop' of a firework. This is the first year he's been ok so far. (He's 6 now)

My dog has been okay until tonight when they where going off right outside.

He was panting, shaking and wanted to cling to me like a baby monkey [sad|. To be honest I just let him. Policeman who popped round for a chat about a recent attemped theft on street must have thought i was very odd with a terrier clamped to my chest!

I've had my staffie on my lap all night. He's terrified the poor little bugger. He's 7 but we've only had him 2.5 years. He doesn't like loud noises but I don't remember him being like this last year. I've come up to bed because he'll go under the bed and has settled down. Fingers crossed they stop soon!
