14 week old pup, still jumping and biting

Thought I would put this in the wider doghouse, we have a 14 week old Rhodesian ridgeback puppy who had always been snappy, we have tried all the usual things, crying ouch in a loud voice (makes her worse) getting up and walking away, turning our back on her, saying "no biting" etc and she's still the same as the day we brought her home I'm at my wits end don't know what to try next.

She's fabulous at clicker training won't bite then but outside of training she's awful. It's ruining our enjoyment of her, I've list count of the tips that have holes in them and food DS had holes in his arms as well

Oh also do the toy in mouth thing as well, the DCs are great at this bit it doesn't help. She bit me on the face today unprovoked.

Same with the jumping up tried everything.

Really tough, I sympathise.

Have you got training classes booked? I ask because we're having a similar problem with jumping up and biting at clothes, legs etc, also barking, and we have phoned the dog trainer that we're booked in with to arrange a home visit and family session. She charges for it but it's worth it for me to feel we're doing only the right things and not inadvertently encouraging the biting.

Could you try getting a well known, reputable trainer round to your house to watch you all for a while?

I'd definitely get a trainer to come to you - it must be very frustrating ..

Fitz has really calmed down in the last few days and is much easier to be with - he was 14 weeks on Tuesday so a very similar age. His basic temperament is extremely laid back so if Nala is a bit feistier it might take her a little longer to get the hang of being calm

Have you seen the kikopup 'capturing calm' video? It's basically a doggie version of catching your dc being good but you're reinforcing the behaviour you do want rather than focussing on the bad and therefore inadvertently reinforcing that

I would say 14 weeks is not unusual to be still doing this. I wouldn't be changing technique, but choosing one and getting everyone o stick to it rigidly consistency is the key here.

It took us a while to get past this stage with our lab. We started training classes when she was age 6 mths and they helped enormously. She is now 17 mths and never snaps or nips and rarely jumps up. She is a dream dog now.

14 weeks its still puppy biting, she will grow out of it.

I bought some antlers after Moose recommended a website antlerdogchews.co.uk and minty is much calmer chewing on these rather than the pigs ears which get him hyper. They also don't smell but the main difference is I can still communicate with minty when he's chewing an antler and he's calm and happy, whereas pigs ears make him go loopy and he ignores us all totally.
