Skin problems/ demodectic mange?

Hi, I have a 7 month old Shar Pei who really has had her fair share of problems. I feel so sad for her, and stupid for buying a breed susceptible to health problems. So far she has had 3 operations on her eyes, ear infections, been attacked badly by other dogs twice, and now possible mange. She has growing bald patches but I haven't noticed her itching enough to make them bald, her skin seems to flare up within hours and look red, this morning she wasn't red, tonight she is and probably by morning the redness will have died down again! One vet did a skin scrape on Friday, whilst she was anaesthetised for eye op and found one live demodex, now the skin specialist wants to have her in again to do more skin scrapes/biopsies to search for more demodex before treating. Meanwhile she is in 2 weeks of antibiotics. My question is has anyone ever treated a dog for this, Google tells me it's a horrible treatment with many other side effects? What are your experiences? Anything natural work? I really want to avoid long uncomfortable treatment as she has endured so much already. Advice/ thoughts gratefully received but please don't criticise me for the breed choice as in all other respects she's a great dog (apart from teenage rebellion!)

Yes I have treated dogs with demodex successfully. Yes the stuff is not pleasant. However, used correctly it does work. Demodex are opportunist parasites when the immune system is weak.

Lonecat - in what ways is it not pleasant? How long did it take? Thanks for replying!

It is an OP and you should be wearing gloves, mask and apron when using it.
