Matts and dealing with them

The puppy has a pure poodle coat. He is currently growing out his puppy coat, so he's getting matts close to the skin. I have a slicker brush, a metal comb and some detangling spray, but it's a real battle. He hates having it done, and I hate doing it. I'm using my fingers close to his skin to try and stop the pulling, but I'm clearly not doing enough as he struggles like mad :( Any tips on how to get him used to this? It'll be an ongoing coat issue and I don't want him to hate me

I use a Les Pooches brush and Cowboy Magic detangler. One of us brushes while the other rewards her with treats. We also do it in short sessions. I'm hoping that once the puppy coat has blown, things may get better on the matt front. We also find regular professional grooming is essential. Good luck Smile

Yeah, he's booked in to the groomer's in two weeks. I'm just trying to keep on top of it until then. His coat is around 2 inches long at the moment, which is adorable and fluffy, but hard to maintain when he's bouncing through muddy puddles and hedge diving with the spaniel. I have him shaved quite close underneath, the armpits, bum etc.
