I have acquired a wee shih-tzu, approx 14 months old. All my previous dogs have been largish working types (collie, alsatian etc)

She is very sweet, seems bright. Good with the kids as long as they are respectful (I'm on top of that!) There was a query as to whether there's been abuse in her past.

Questions:

What is a good treat to use for training? I've only had big dogs before and their biscuits are massive, plus this wee dog doesn't seem to like them.

What food do you use? She's going to be active, out and about a lot plus 3 school age children to amuse her.

Planning to get spaying organised tomorrow, and she is at least house trained thank goodness! Starting bed/ recall and lead training as well.

Thanks for any replies!

I use fresh stuff for training. Less additives and much higher value for the dog. Bits of cheese, chicken, sausage or liver cake.
Just cut it smaller for the little dog!
