Book recommendations

It's my birthday soon and I've had a few relatives ask what I'd like. I'm going to ask for some doggy books; my parents have paid for a Patricia McConnell seminar for me to go to a few days before :).

Any fairly priced book recommendations? 10-20 max.

Ive read all the ones I could find online cheap enough (student budget). Apologies I can't list them all as I can't remember their names off the top of my head but the few I can remember are Mine!, In Defence of Dogs, Positive Training for Dummies, The Cautious Canine...and the book with the word "Bones" in the title by Clothier (sorry can't remember the name!). That's most of them I think.

Are there many easy to read books that'll help with agility training? We are starting classes soon (per agility classes, as it were). Also interested in reading about tracking (really basic scent work stuff) but don't know where to start!

I really enjoyed reading The Genius of Dogs.

I also highly recommend The Official Ahimsa Dog Training Manual: A Practical, Force-Free Guide to Problem Solving and Manners and On Talking Terms With Dogs.

All three books can help understand how dogs think, what their motivations are and how to work with them rather than against them and use only positive, non-punitive training methods.

Ooh which Patricia McConnell seminar are you going to? I'm going to one too!

Thanks Moosemama. I've read The Genius of Dogs (didn't enjoy it that much to be honest but it was okay) but I haven't read the others. I'll check out if they're available and affordable online and let the people asking me what I want know :P

I think I liked the Genius of Dogs because it's less technical and wordy than 'In Defence of Dogs' and gets the point across in a very reader friendly way. I found it a book I could dip into as my bedtime read, whereas some others I couldn't do that with, as they were more 'thinkers' than relaxers, iyswim.

I am the same by the way - always have a big list of dog related books ready for when/if people ask me what I'd like for Christmas/birthdays.

I read In Defence of Dogs first so that's probably why I wasn't so interested in The Genius of Dogs. A lot of the content was the same so I ended up skimming through some parts. Hardly the book's fault, though!

Yes, very similar content, but 'Genius' is much more of a light read.
