Advantix - how can I by-pass vet?

I need to purchase some Advantix for dog. There is plenty available on internet at half the price of the vet's, but it all says you need a prescription. I'm confused. If you need a prescription from the vet, then you have to pay for the consultation, so you're stuffed. Am I missing something?

What people often do is get a prescription for a years worth at their booster vaccination.
There is no way to by-pass the vet I am afraid it's a prescription only medicine.

Not sure if this company in Australia charges too much for delivery to outweigh the financial benefits but its worth a look and delivers to the UK.

Advantix isnt a 'prescription only' product in a lot of countries and this one converts cost to British pounds easily for you

Who is buying it on the internet then if you can't get it without a prescription?

Buying it from the Australian site doesn't work out as much of a saving

People do by getting the prescription at yearly booster.

Prescription only costs £15 or so from the vet. We'd do a regular consultantion, and then buy online using the prescription.

It only works if you need a consultation anyway, though, or if the saving is enough to be worth the consultatoon and £15 on top.

It is for some meds, like heart meds etc. You can often get Advantix on the same Prescription, so it's worth it then, too. It's probably not worth if if you just want Advantix.

Or if your dog is registered at a vets you can request a written prescription from them to buy your Advantix online. There will be a charge for this service.

Hmmph, looks like I missed a trick by not asking for a yearly prescription, then. Dog doesn't need a consultation, just more supplies of Advantix. Grrrr.

At our vets you can see the nurse for worming/flea products - then you don't get charged a consultation fee.

You need to tell them in advance what it's for though so the vet can sign off the medication.

Might be worth asking.

Just call the vet and ask how much to write a years prescription for the stuff , they won't need to see you to write the prescription . Personally I'd rather get my flea/worming stuff from the vet as I'm never convinced that what you get online is the real thing . People buy human drugs online that have been proven to be not what they say they are .

Just rang the vet and they said they'd do a year's prescription. They also pointed out that dog should be weighed so I get the right size dose (for worming tablets too).

I wouldn't buy just any old thing off internet, but a couple of people have recommended MedicAnimal and Viovet.

Hypervet are good. On phone so can't link.

We use their own brand tick drops and wormers which work well for us.

Ps I wouldn't buy human drugs online either but it is actual registered vets selling medicine with the proper UK licence
