French Bulldog rant

I'm looking for a French Bulldog and everywhere I see them for sale at £2,000 plus, I saw one today for £4,000 all because they are blue, or chocolate. I just want a nice fawn one, or a brindle, but these colours just aren't fashionable enough. It's making me mad and is very frustrating, I just want a dog!!!!!!

You could try contacting the breed club for help finding a breeder.

You're right to avoid the others.

KC DO NOT recognise blue, chocolate or tri coloured French Bulldogs just as they don't in British Bulldogs. You do right to stay away from these colours as the breeders are only in it for the money. Unfortunatley £2000 pound is the going rate for a Frenchie also a really good breeder will charge the same price for a boy or a girl. Good luck in your search you will find the right one and when you do you will just know.

I've been speaking to a couple of KC assured breeders in my area and they've confirmed £1,000 is around the going rate in this area. We originally wanted a blue one but after doing research and realising why these are not recognised colours they are definitely a no go. I just think it's awful that so many of these colours are being bred and sold purely for a huge profit. And saps not doing their research (or not caring) buying them makes me sad.

Thanks for the advise and link, I'm still getting as much info as possible and will be going to an open show so I can speak to breeders and owners in person.

I avoid looking at puppy adverts online. It makes me too sad and angry. I wish more people realised, as you have done, that there are lots of shitty people out there breeding for profit without any concern for the dogs or the pups.

I'd avoid French bulldogs all together. Lovely dogs but riddled with health problems. Spend your money on something less manufactured.

What Vetnurse said. (also said by the lovely owner of one of our few Frenchie patients, whilst collecting meds for his eye and skin problems, and booking a revisit to check on his second patella surgery site).
