How much meat in a BARF diet?

In a BARF diet, how much meat do you give to the dog?
I read in some guidelines that you should give 2 to 3% of its body weight as meat per day.
If it’s a growing puppy, should you give more?

Yes, though age is a factor. In an 8 week old puppy you would feed 8 - 10% of the pups bodyweight. This varies pup to pup and gradually lowers as the pup grows. Smaller dogs often have a higher metabolism. For instance I feed my border over 3% but he is still lean though he is well exercised too.

The diet should be roughly made up of 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% offal.

Raw feeding UK group on facebook have some good information if you use facebook at all.

For a puppy I fed mine 10% of their body weight over 4 meals a day. If you have a big dog keep an eye on keeping them lean and you can adjust accordingly.

What bones do you use for puppies?
Do you need to grind them down first in a food processor?

I started mine off on chicken wings bashed with a hammer. I kept an eye on them when eating. Don't be alarmed if they eat it then fetch it back up to eat again. My bulldog is 4 now and still does this often. Duck feet and chicken feet are also good little treats for them. They have had all sorts of bones when they were pups just under supervision and I never ground their bones up.
