Tell me about Springers

We lost our old girl earlier this month and we need a dog in the house, its unbearable. We're waiting to find one through rescue rather than give money to the breeding industry (personal choice). I know the new one won't be a replacement and will try hard not to make comparisons.
Our old lady was a Springer X Dalmatian, and DramaAlpaca helped me out by answering my questions about whether some of her personality traits were especially Springerish.
So.....
We want mad, messy, loud, demanding, hilarious, affectionate and needy. And a dog that smells really doggy ish. Does that sound like a Springer?!
(No kids, live beside a beach & plenty of forests etc. at least one person in the home all day, dog would have every whim catered for, be cuddled endlessly, sleep in our bed)

Sounds like a Springer or something with a lot of Springer in will be your perfect pet.

This rescue might have something to suit you... I walk some of them regularly and bonkers (but in a nice way) is a fair description!

Love this!! I think a Springer is just what you need- they're usually absolutely nuts!!

Definitely a description of a springer. Kelpie and collies are possibly other breeds to look at as well.

I'm in N. Ireland, so am pretty restricted to a handful of rescues. I even miss having poo all over the house. (Old girl was a bit incontinent)
I co-parent a border collie and a collie cross (lurcher). No more collies! They both smell like new cars very unsatisfying when you want a big sniff of a hairy ear!

We have a springer and he is great. He has settled down considerably, but is still a live-wire. If it is stinky you are after then I can highly recommend them! He's just been farting at my feet as I type .

Our lady wasn't energetic in recent years but still enjoyed a chase of a pinecone when out on her patrols. She was super needy and demanding and needed a hand when she fell down etc. and oh god she smelt so good. Y'know that sweaty, sleepy puppy smell? She was grunty and made so much noise! She wouldn't allow the curtains to be open in our house, the day she died we opened the curtains and said 'this is shit isn't it?' And they've been closed ever since.

DH grew up with a Springer but it was many moons ago.

sounds exactly like a springer to me. if you are in the North West or Yorkshire there are two good springer rescue groups. My df is a visiting volunteer for the West Yorkshire area for both organisations is you fancy giving a lost dog a good home

That sums up a springer! Crazy, fun, smelly, love water and getting covered in filth :) our boy is 3 now. They're great fun and very loving.

ziggy, caessr and nwessr are the two that we've used in our family and whom my df visits for. On recent experience I'd go with caessr first. John who runs it has been fab. There is a nessr for the north east of but we have no direct experience. nwessr use kennels near the Trafford Centre for dogs the can't find foster families for, I've been to their kennels and a couple of the foster homes and they were good. I know a lot of people who have adopted and fostered through nwessr for years with multiple dogs. Both organisations are very careful and professional in their checks of adopters. My df's current dog is from caessr and he is utterly amazing

OP the rescue I work with mentioned upthread actually gets a great many of its dogs from Ireland! There's a petition running about changes to EU law which will make bringing dogs from Eire to the UK for rehoming much much more difficult.

My Springer fits that description exactly. My Dad calls her 'Cracker Dog' and she really is MAD but also so affectionate, clever, as loyal as Lassie and has an incredible sense of humour (Yes, really). And oh boy, does she stink. We still let her sleep on our bed though .

dame oh really? I know a lot of dogs get sent over for a chance at life, from the Republic, to England. This island has a terrible track record for treating dogs appallingly, and the proposed new legislation will lead to the deaths of many many more dogs, its sickening. There has to be a loophole, they should be able to pass up into the North and then be able to go over to England... We can pass freely over the border here because of 'dual citizenship' and a 'try not to piss those crazy northerners off by enforcing passport/border control' thinking. So hopefully that won't change, especially for canine passengers. Grrrrr.

We have a daffy Springer although now he is middle aged, he has calmed considerably. I luffs him.
