Thanks so much for Doghouse advice

I have posted a few times since we got our pup 20 months ago and I just want to say thank you for the continued advice.

I posted most recently about the dog stealing items from around the house and making a run for it - I have implemented all of the advice most notably having treats ready and available and just praising him like mad when he drops it.

He's just picked up a glove off the floor (obviously it shouldn't have been there) so I started on my silly voice 'good boy, good boy, drop' - he came to me wagging his tail, obviously having an internal wrangle because he still really wants the glove, dropped it and then got his treat and lots of fuss.

That's it really. Nothing momentous, just another occasion where shared wisdom has helped me gain perspective on something that was becoming massively frustrating.

I'm off to find your old threads because the springer does this and it drives me mad.

here - reading it back it's all common sense advice but DH and I were getting really wound up by it!

There is nothing more annoying than hanging out the washing just to have a springer stealthily sneak up, grab a peg and clear off laughing.

And the shriek of anguish from a two year old as a springer shoots off with her dolly in his mouth.

If you can do it, so can I!

where be grateful it's just a peg! My Goldie used lie quietly while I hung the clothes out. I'd go back inside and see him walk up and down looking at the clothes line before deciding what item of clothing he was going to take! And then run off with it! I now dry everything either in the tumble drier or inside!

I can remember my border collie as a pup swinging round and round the rotary line, feet right off the ground, hanging onto some washing

Mine sounds like an angel now!! Just took him to the beach where he played so nicely with all of the other dogs he met and came back with me when I was ready.

I'm sure it's just like kiddies - I'm feeling the love right now but will probably be tearing my hair out again next week
