Killing stray dogs in Romania

I get a few of the Romanian rescue pages on fb and apparently they have just started to round up and kill the many thousands of stray dogs on the streets. Hmm
Not sure how I feel about it really, on one hand I can understand a cull as they do have a massive problem, but they have also just spent millions neutering some of them, for them to be killed. The photos of dead dogs is very upsetting.

They do have a huge problem over there. My DH spent some time working in Romania and he said it was awful. He said it would be impossible to imagine the sheer number of strays until actually see it.

There are safety issues with packs of starving dogs allowed to roam the street and also health issues with the amount of dog fouling all over the streets.

Just had a quick google. Estimated 40,00 - 60,000 strays in Bucharest.

A 4 year old boy was killed by a pack of strays - horrific.

I think they probably need to cull but also put measures in place to stop in getting out of control again in the future.

Awful but I can't see a better solution. They either cull them or they continue, half starved and with chronic levels of endemic disease and ill health. It's not a nice life.
It's shit for the dogs and it's crap for the people that have to live with all the risks of a dense population of feral dogs.

Hopefully things aren't allowed to get this out of control again.
