Waterproofing my dog

Pizpup and I are currently very happily curled up on the sofa together watching the rain and not even contemplating going outside until it stops. We've both been totally spoilt by the long warm summer and he's been loving his walks but now the weather's less predictable he's putting on his sad face whenever there's a bit of wet in the air.

Last winter he was a tiny puppy and I made do with one wax jacket for him and one pull-over fleece. Problem with the wax jacket was that a) his tummy is so low to the ground (half daxie) that he still got cold, soaking and filthy, and b) the jacket got filthy too and I found myself constantly washing and re-waxing it. The pull-on fleece was fab and kept him warm and dry but he hates it going over his head.

We're killing time over the next few days waiting for the arrival of dc1 and I want to find a solution which will mean he's kept warm and dry as possible on walks, but also minimal mess and fuss for me at home as I'm sure I'll have other things to worry about. Does anyone have any miracle dog coat/jacket recommendations which will revolutionizeour lives?

TThanks!

Ahh... Smile - yes, if I'd had to say (and not being able to judge the leg length) I'd have said wire haired dachs.

Ha ha this thread has taken an unexpected turn! Errol, I put another pic up so you can see his legs. Although it's v hard to get a good one as he's so small! His mum was a smooth-haired black and tan, just goes to show you can never predict how they'll turn out.

Worst poodle cross I ever saw was a cavapoo who had a cavalier head which looked like it had been surgically attached to a poodle body. I felt so sorry for it as all the other spaniel/poodle crosses I've seen have been adorable.

Aw he's gorgeous Pizdets. I'm a total sucker for a bearded dog face. Grin

I agree you would never say there was poodle in him but he is gorgeous . I wonder if any of them come out curly .

The lady with the Maltipoo wondered how the tiny male maltese managed to mate with a tall standard poodle. Answer= the tall female lies down.

My neighbour's son's cockerpoo is all poodle.

yes, the one we know. unusual in that it has aspects of both parents.

small dogs can evidently be persistent/athletic/persuasive ... there was a case reported a few years back about some people who had a rottie bitch and an entire dachshund which they assumed wouldn't be a problem! And an acquaintance said she used to live in a village with a very strange-looking selection of mongrels thanks to a dachshund Casanunder Grin

I've seen a JRT x Labrador , JRT body and Labrador head ,most bizarre looking dog but at least it was a genuine accident not a design .

The onsie raintrouser suit arrived today, but it is thick and stiff. Haven't yet tried it on her Hmm. Looks well made with a good zip along the back but am sure she will refuse to walk in it and look absolutely dead offended at me.

digerd · 13/09/2013 18:25

Right. Doggie Raincoat with hood arrived today. It is more like a cape with a hood no trousers but coat is longer over the sholders and hips.

Nylon is lightweight and more supple than the onsie, and little very fussy dog was wary at first but with no restrictive leg movements was soon fine. She wouldn't hold her head up with the hood fully on so had to shift it back away from her ears.
She looked like a little doggy Red Riding Hood. Grin. Think they do it in black
