Dog is being neutered tomorrow - feeling very anxious! I know it's the right thing to do as he's ready but just can't help thinking of the poster on here ages ago whose dog died having the op. Tell me it'll be fine and he'll be home with me tomorrow afternoon.

He will. Both of mine were done and it is a really stressful and anxious time for you.
Tomorrow afternoon you'll be doing battle with a lampshade (they are sharp when batted around the ankles btw) wondering what you were worried about.

Thanks

Tip though, ask your vet if an inflatable collar is suitable (I could use one on my Westie but not on my Scottie as his nose was too long!), if it is, they are about £8 - £12 depending on the size of your dog but they are so much easier than the lampshades.

Our 9 month old Schnauzer was castrated 2 weeks ago and was absolutely fine, was a bit sorry for himself the 1st day and kept whimpering but was ok the next day,

Just had fun with the lampshade and knocking against door frames and legs, he had his stitches out last Thursday and has had no problems at all.

Thanks both! The thought of the lampshade has made me laugh- poor devil!!

He'll be fine :) it's a routine procedure and the risks are very small.

Bowlersarm · 01/09/2013 21:41

Mine was done two weeks ago. He's fine! A bit of fuss needed for first few days but that was it. We weren't given a lampshade, and actually he hasn't needed one.

GhostsInSnow · 01/09/2013 21:48

I had a bright red, sore line across both ankles for a week.... Although the hilarity of watching him charge headlong into a gap he couldn't fit through with the lamp shade on did sort of make up for the pain.
The westie was a much calmer, happier dog for having it done, the scottie however remained as mad as a box of frogs until he passed away. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again though, always seems 'the right thing to do'.

I know you're all right, he's humping my 9yo dd all the time so needs to be done. It's just that my friend's dog was pts yesterday and think that's playing on my mind. They so quickly become such a major part of your family, he really has taken over our lives and we all love so much, I hate the idea of him having an op that's not strictly necessary, although it obviously is due to the humping!! Thank you all, keep thinking of the lampshade to cheer me up!! Grin

Mine was fine too and didn't need the collar of shame. It was more of a job stopping him racing round like a loon.

GhostsInSnow · 02/09/2013 16:54

How did you go on? Hopefully all done now and he's recovering

Hi all, he's back, very sleepy and sorry for himself and looks utterly ridiculous with his cone! But wags his tail at us although he has not eaten yet. I feel daft now for worrying! Smile

OP posts:
GhostsInSnow · 02/09/2013 19:59

Oh you aren't daft, you just love him. Glad all went well. He'll be a bit subdued for a day or two I suspect and then he'll be causing havoc.
Smile

I reckon by tomorrow morning you won't know he's had anything done . Mine was fine after the first night and I think that was the after effects of the anaesthetic ,he certainly didnt appear to be in any discomfort . It was also really nice to not have a dog humping everything in sight !

fanoftheinvisibleman · 02/09/2013 21:24

I'm sure he'll be back to himself tomorrow Smile
