I took a dog into a big supermarket beginning with T. I did it because I reckoned it was not safe to leave a dog tied up outside. If it became afraid it could bite. Anything could happen. With me, the dog was under control.

Needless to say I was told off. I did something legal but against company policy.

I think these places should have a policy for people who have their dogs with them. It would appear that this is not the case. I am looking into the legal aspects of who is responsible if the dog is left outside, which appears to be a fundamentally bad idea... The carpark is not publically owned land and it is the decision of the landowners to disallow other animals inside.

I think that if shops have a No Dog policy, they should be absolutely clear about where you can leave a dog safely.

I haven't as yet seen a dog in the supermarket in France where the dog is king. If it doesn't happen in France it is unnecessary. After all it is a country where I regularly see dogs sat at chairs at the table in restaurants.

Kindness to people in their circumstances?!

What a load of tosh! To paraphrase you mean, let me do what i want to do and not care about anyone else!

They're not allowed, suck it up as life is hard sometimes. You are on a hiding to nothing in this regard, I am afraid.

I don't see how sometimes there can be no choice but to take your dog to a supermarket op, I have a dog too and have never had to bring her inside one or tie her up outside. What was so urgent about the lottery ticket that you had to buy it there and then?

And the argument that dogs are better behaved than some children. And? They are dogs. They stay out of food shops. Regardless of whether they are the doggy Baby Jesus reincarnate.

I wouldn't mind them in bookshops though.

Surely if you're concerned that your dog will bite then that's more of an issue than whether he's allowed in the shop.

PigsDoFly - dogs do piss in Pets at Home, which inevitably means other dogs follow suit. Its the exception though. Most other shops only allow assistance dogs which generally behave impeccably.

Our village shop used to allow dogs in, under control - easier to keep a leashed dog out of the low-level shelf of pick&mix than grubby fingered children!

"doggy baby jesus reincarnate" is funny
