Hypothetically , if I were to get a dog, which race would you recommend?
My criteria would be the following:

Small but not yappy
Good with children
Won't eat the cat

We used to have a French bulldog, he as the best dog ever Grin although he was a little too big farted like nothing on earth and his hair wove its way into everything (I'm assuming I wouldn't have this problem with less bristly haired dog?)

Race doesn't sound right. I'd get a cocker because they are the best breed ever lovely and fit your criteria

The Japanese Shiba inu is a brilliant dog. Very catlike at times (fastidiously clean dogs) and get on well with cats - though nothing smaller or there will be carnage!

Does have a double coat which they"blow" twice a year and can be stubborn so not recommended as a first dog.

We have one and a 3.5 yr old and he's great with her. Very patient and even stood while 20 odd nursery kids crowded round him for a pat and a cuddle without batting an eyelid!

CANNOT be let off lead though as like a husky will run...and not come back!!

Doesn't bark but can "scream" - especially at bath time! But normally very quiet and can be left alone for a few hours without tearing the place to shreds (well, after the puppy phase that is...ours chewed a rug but only till his baby teeth had been replaced by the adult ones!).

Everyone will ask if its a fox..(if you get a red or red sesame). White ones look like polar bear cubs when puppies so high on the awhhhh stakes!

Intelligent, funny, loving, stubborn, small dog who thinks its a big sled dog..that's the Shiba.
