Changing over from kibble to canned food (Chappie)

Hi there experts, now that lab puppy is nearly 1 year old (how did that happen?) we are going to change to Chappie original from Hills kibble. Should we just do it or introduce it gradually, I am aware that you are not supposed to upset the balance of kibble by mixing with anything else. Thanks

Is there a reason you are changing? Chappie is a very good dog food, hills is £££s - there are cheaper complete foods if that is the issue. If it were me, id just change one meal a day

I want to cut down on the cereal content of his food. Also I have noticed that he has a slight cough when he has eaten his kibble (probably too fast!) because of the somewhat dusty aspect of the kibble. I have also read on here that the poo is firmer with Chappie - hope that is true!

I wouldn't feed just Chappie all the time.

I have always mixed kibble with a bit of wet food (both Arden Grange) as the GSD has eating issues. One tin does four meals as I just add a bit.

Chappie is extremely cereal high, just happens to be moist!

We have to feed our dog Chappie due to diabetes as its low calorie, it does maintain his weight but he isn't that healthy on it, his coat is dry and his teeth horrendous.

Yes to firm poos though.

I'd just swap to a different kibble . We use Barking Heads and the poo is very firm and the only time you get a small amount of dust is right at the bottom of the bag . Perhaps try a feed ball or one of those special bowls to stop him eating so fast . We feed ours from a feed ball a few times a week as he enjoys it so much ( is weather dependent as I don't have it rolling around the house )

New to dog ownership but agree that wet doesn't automatically mean no cereal. Sharkey came to us on Royal Canin which we felt wasn't great for him. We're currently in the process of converting to Eden - we had a sample and he loved it (plus better poos than with RC). Our first big bag arrives on Tuesday -it's no wheat or grain and is actually cheaper than the RC.

I've just ordered a sample of Eden, my pup was on rc but went off it, been feeding frozen raw meat, but it's sometimes practical to be able to use kibble will be interested to see if he likes Eden :)

Otto loves it - we were even using the kibble to train.him so I'm hopeful that he'll be ok with it.

Why don't you just go raw? It's the most natural food for dogs and sooooooooo much cheaper than hideously processed kibble or tinned food?
