New Puppy Mommies in here *blerk*

Got our new puppy on Saturday. I was in tears this morning and I'm a pretty experienced dog owner. Its just so hard moaning cow that I am He is a 9 week old cocker and is a beautiful, cuddly boy but is a massive shitting machine. And not in the garden either.

So any new puppy owners want to weep in here then please do.

Birdmomma, you have to do whatever works best for you and your family. There's no one-size-fits-all solution that will suit every dog.

Pip has an odd green, four-legged plush toy, with a squeaker in each leg and a stretchy head that he adores. He loves ragging it because all four legs and the head and tail flail around and he can always find a squeaker. I bought it in the Vet UK sale though and can't find a similar one to link to.

Grin Sallybear so excited for you and a little bit jealous too!

Just realised it wasn't VetUK, it was Doggie Solutions. This is it.

Customer service from DS was excellent compared to PAH by the way and they were also much cheaper.

We are really looking forward to it too. It basically boiled down to hospitals that forced us to collect him earlier, but I'm hoping that his arrival will be just the tonic for DD after her op. Smile Toby-Obi-Wan-Kenobi. May the paws be with you.

Of course Sally. They were going to keep him while dd was in hospital. How exciting! Grin

Love the look of that toy moose. I will order one for Toby. Smile

It should really help dd. It's hard to be down when there's back to back puppy antics to make you laugh.

SallyBear · 16/08/2013 22:42

That's what I'm hoping too. So I will be on the doghouse couch moaning about lack of sleep on Monday!

Whatever you do, don't be tempted by the cheap squeaky frog with replaceable squeakers though. I was and it's teeny. It fits in the palm of my hand and is practically so small Pip would be in danger of inhaling it.

Finally got a puppy collar to fit Pip off ebay yesterday. It arrived today Shock and dh says it's too girly. This is because everyone keeps referring to Pip as 'she' (even our own dcs keep doing it Hmm) because of his pretty face and fine bones. Then when we say, 'Actually he's a boy.' they always say 'But he's so pretty, he looks just like a girl.'

Then again, I've been asked several times if Lurcherboy is Pip's Mum and he's a big solid lad, who simply can't be mistaken for a female for obvious reasons.

It's really dark purple velvet, with silver stars on and was the only one I could get small enough that wasn't either pink or ridiculously blinged. It's supposed to be for teacup chihuahua puppies! Grin

I'm planning to get him a beautiful hound collar, but money is a bit tight for the rest of this month and the 'teacup collar' was only about £4.00.

I think he looks lovely in it and it's tough, because I couldn't get hold of a nice soft collar in blue that was small enough.

Moose I am a tightwad as I bought Jarvis his collar in Wilkos, it came with a lead for £2 Grin

sally woop woop, how exciting. Add the earplugs to your list.

Awks, I wanted to get a cheapie puppy set, like the ones I've always had for previous pups, but literally nowhere around here sells them and all the ones I saw online were harsh nylon webbing, rather than soft woven ones.

Pip has very fine fur and thin skin, so I needed something that wasn't going to rub - honestly, you'd think lurchers would be hardy wouldn't you, but not Pip, he's a fragile little flower, bless his little cotton socks. Grin

I love Wilko's. We used to shop there regularly when we lived in Lancashire. They do online sales now, but I didn't think of looking on there for cheap dog-stuff - doh!

Stanley has decided, after living here all of 24 hours, that the floor is no place for a puppy, instead the sofa on my big fluffy cushion is much more acceptable. He's taken to bouncing round on his back legs pitifully until we lift him up. I just can't say no to his big puppy eyes...I'm done for aren't I.

Sally how exciting, what is fox coloured? I've only seen golden, black and chocolate.

Buttons he is a sort of ginger biscuit colour, if that's any help. Looking forward to his arrival. Now thinking that a crate maybe the way to go... Good job someone is lending us one!

Buttons - glad I'm not the only one that can't resist big puppy eyes.

We took Birdpup for her first proper walk with lots of other dogs today. it went well after her initial instinct to kill every dog she could see (she is the size of a small cat, so this was ill-advised). A lovely doggie dog owner allowed her dogs to be yapped at until she finally calmed down and realised that other dogs can be friends. Phew.

He's home and he's freaking adorable!

But he has whinged and whimpered all night. Him and DD have tag teamed meaning DP and I have had no sleep.

So far no accidents in the house. Breeder had him puppy pad trained and he prefers the grass. Long may this continue!!

His name is Aulay as in MacAulay. 'Aww-lay'. It's an Ulsterscots name - DP is from NI and I'm Scottish.

I will try and upload a photo of him onto my profile (bare with me!).

Fox red labs are lovely, Aulay's dad was a foxy lab. A friend of mine has a stunning working red lab.

Aw well done Birdpup! My next door neighbours have an adult cocker spaniel, he's a working type and utterly bonkers...he was racing round the garden yesterday with a cockerpoo, while Stanley sat transfixed watching with huge wide eyes, as if to say "Look mum! Look at the big dogs! Wow!"

We had another good night with him last night, we decided to put his crate downstairs rather than in our bedroom; he cried for about 10 minutes (while I felt like the cruellest owner in the entire world) but then didn't make a sound until 6 this morning. He went outside for a wee and a poo, and now he's humping his cuddly pheasant enthusiastically Grin

MissMummy it's so hard when they're crying isn't it...I hope he settles soon. Can't wait to see a pic Smile

Those big puppy eyes are an absolute killer aren't they - though he's banned from the sofa I sit on the floor with him on my knee cuddling him like a baby and it's lovely. Sadly, he's a smelly spaniel, some are and some aren't and this one definitely is.

So he was in his crate downstairs till 6 am this morning came out and had a wee and a pooh so that was good. Now we have discovered the funniest thing ever. Plastic 1L coke bottles on the floor, he will play with it for ages, sort of terrified but enthralled all at the same time. Bloody hilarious.

Missmummy we left the radio on and that did help with the nighttime howling. He didnt make a sound last night for the first time

Up at 5.30 - not bad after a full night's sleep. Rushed to let puppy in the garden so he wouldn't wake the whole family but after a long wee he started doing little puppy barks as he was so excited to start the day. Anyone else struggling to keep a bundle of fluff quiet..

SallyBear · 17/08/2013 07:31

Ahh he's just exuberant! Long may it last Mother!!

Excited about getting Toby home, but nervous at the same time as I haven't puppy proofed the house! Guess what we are doing today!! Thankfully we don't have any poisonous plants in the garden but we do have lots of pebbles under a bench....

Awks · 17/08/2013 08:02

MOG that's good - it's quite nice to be up early, I sat in the garden with a cup of tea at 6.15 this morning watching the seagulls fly over and it was lovely. Though I'm not as content at 11 pm when my eyes are shutting on the sofa Grin
sally we haven't bothered about the pebbles as the patio outside our house is totally pebbles and he has to walk over that to get to the grass. He didn't like it at first but now isn't bothered. He doesn't pick them up so you probably won't have to do anything with them as they don't like the feel on their tender paws. Bet you can't wait

Awks, have you seen those cuddly dog-toy bottle covers? Like these.

My old collie x girl was always in her element with a plastic bottle, so much so, that she used to help tidy the park on her way round. We used to take a plastic bag and collect them up as she found them, then stick them in the recycle box when we got home. Grin

Great news about your quiet night, but am very Envy. Actually dh had Pip last night, so I slept from 11.45 ish till 7.00 am when my new washing machine was finally delivered.

He had another go at screaming at me when I was just the other side of the dog gate, in full view, this morning, so I'm doing regular 5 minute clicker sessions on him being quiet both there and in his crate and that seems to be working.

Autumns a lovely name, really lovely and unusual.

Moose those bottle covers are insane, have ordered the cat one just to be annoying Grin and glad your clicker sessions seem to be working, I guess its a case of being consistent even when you are exhausted but you and your dh obviously know what you are doing and I am certain your pup will stop panicking soon.
