Got our new puppy on Saturday. I was in tears this morning and I'm a pretty experienced dog owner. Its just so hard moaning cow that I am He is a 9 week old cocker and is a beautiful, cuddly boy but is a massive shitting machine. And not in the garden either.

So any new puppy owners want to weep in here then please do.

Get your bathroom scales out and do the maths! That's what we did to get a vague idea of Toby's weight, Moose. Then the vets put him even heavier than he had been two days earlier!!

moosemama · 31/08/2013 18:25

My bathroom scales have died and I daren't buy a new one, as I think I'd go into hiding if I found out what I actually weigh at the moment. I can tell by my clothes that it's not good. Blush

SallyBear · 31/08/2013 18:37

You and me both! DH just stands on the scales....

moosemama · 31/08/2013 19:00

Thing is, if we had scales, I wouldn't be able to resist stepping on them and finding out the worst. I'm an obsessive weigher, so probably better to not buy more scales. Blush

Pip has crashed out after his people-fest shopping trip. If I could just take him somewhere new to wear him out before every school run, we'd be fine.

We left Lurcherboy at home today, as he hasn't been left at all since we were on holiday and I was worried his SA might rear it's ugly head again. So relieved, he didn't make a peep while we were out. I left him a busy buddy full of kibble, of which he ate half and he didn't even do a so much as a quiet whine on the recording. I reckon he's so exhuasted from constantly being harangued by a bonkers puppy that he enjoyed the break! Grin

LostInWales · 31/08/2013 19:00

I have just stood teen DS1 on the scales and then handed him the puppy, she ways 6 pounds! Teeny little girl. Fortunately she has settled in well with whippety boy already here they are together and this should be one of her contemplating her new collar (no thank you round my neck was the answer). She is lovely and due to the gorgeous warm weather has already done two wees and a poo outside (disclaimer; this is due to the fact that she hasn't really been inside whilst awake yet Wink). Breeder doesn't want her vaccinated until she is 12 weeks but that will be another 6 plus weeks until we can go anywhere, ah well she can travel in my tesco shopping bag and meet lots of people that way! Sorry will go and read everyone elses posts properly but was excited to show you all my baby.

moosemama · 31/08/2013 19:05

Oh LIW, she's absolutely beautiful. Smile

I love the one of them together. Whippety boy's face is very similar to how Lurcherboy's was at first. Not quite sure what to make of it all, but thinking he might quite like it, given enough time to adjust. Now my two are the best of friends and it's so lovely to see their relationship taking shape. Smile

Pip is 13 weeks old today and still hasn't had his 2nd jab. At least your girl will be nice and light to carry around. Grin

SallyBear · 31/08/2013 19:07

She's got blue eyes! So sweet and soft looking. Beautiful Lost. Smile

moosemama · 31/08/2013 19:11

Blue eyed pointy dogs are the best! (Pip has blue eyes too. Wink). Grin

LostInWales · 31/08/2013 19:22

She's a darling and I am infatuated. Of course she hasn't chewed up anything I love yet or pooped on a carpet Grin.

So glad Lurcherboy had a good day at home moose, that must be a big weight off your mind. And I'm very glad that all the tummies are starting to calm down. Lovely puppies Grin.

YellowWellies · 31/08/2013 21:57

Hello all

Can I join even though my wee pup isn't big enough to come home yet? Am learning so much from you all. I can't wait to have her home with us though we are in the midst of the 9 month sleep regression so sod's law DS will start to sleep through again just as the puppy arrives to keep us up....

I got pointed to this lovely thread by MM (of Aulay fame) our DCs are weeks apart in age and so are our woofers! :D

We have quite a list now of lovely puppies. Toby has had a fine time playing football with DS3 and going on adventures through the 'interior' which is also known as our shrubbery!

basildonbond · 31/08/2013 22:20

We have a date to bring Fitz home - a week next Friday

We went to visit him again today - he's sooo sweet, loved being cuddled and generally adored by dd and has the softest fur imaginable Bear

The breeder gave me a grooming lesson so at least I know what I'm doing (if I remember it all!) - her adult dogs are so well-behaved!

Lovely to see all the new puppy photos :)

My jug puppy has been with me for a week now,.. for the first two nights I slept downstairs with her crate next to the sofa, and she screamed all night. On night 3, I filled a fluffy hot water bottle and put it in her crate with her. She settled alot easier with the warmth to comfort her, and now after only a week she sleeps right through the night, and only whines for a few minutes when I first shut off the lights and go to bed :) ..... if only house training would run as smoothly lol! She rips up the puppy pads so I quit using them and switched to good old newspaper. I have a puppy pen for her at the moment, which she goes in when I cant supervise her for whatever reason.. in the puppy pen is her crate, some toys and her water bowl (I feed her in there too).. I've covered the entire floor of her pen with newspaper, and when she's locked in there, she always returns to the same spot to toilet (the corner furthest away from her crate) ... but when I let her out of her pen, she doesn't return to her usual spot, and prefers to do her business wherever takes her fancy! As soon as I spot her sniffing around, I pick her up and taxi her to her pen. But she refuses to stay put, and wanders straight back out to finish where she started (unless I lock her back in) .. I know it's early days and she's very young but it's very annoying. . She's lucky she's so cute ♥ (pics on my profile)

SallyBear · 01/09/2013 06:39

I woke up at 6am, went to the loo and came back to bed. Couldn't see Toby anywhere and our bedroom door was still shut. DD had gotten up earlier (sore ribs) and had taken him downstairs (hope she carried him), let him out for a poo/wee (they were sausages!!) and then fed him. Fed him the wrong food and too much of it!! Arghhhhhhhh! Now cursing my stupidity for not throughing out splatty poo inducing food. Bollocks!

SallyBear · 01/09/2013 06:39

Or even *throwing out!

Muma how come you are not training pup to go to toilet outside? I have been taking Jessie outside every hour or out for a walk. Lots of praise and a treat when she goes. She has puppy pads but has only been on them once or twice. She just doesn't seem to get it. She is dry overnight. Is still having accidents but if I keep up with the routine there isn't too many.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 01/09/2013 10:09

oh little pup is so good. We all adore him - and that is something considering we have been a family of GSD parents for... well forever! Grin

A working cocker so far has been a delight!

SallyBear · 01/09/2013 10:22

Just found tiny little black mites? on Toby. He has been scratching and we did give him the advocate when he got home two weeks ago. DH thinks that they're the eggs that have hatched after the treatment. I thought that the whole point of these things was to eradicate everything!!!

MadeOfStarDust · 01/09/2013 10:53

Fleas... probably hatched after the treatment - some treatments are more effective than others.. would recommend an all over spray for puppies - worked well into the fur I've not seen anything as effective. We used Frontline spray from the vet for ours til he was over 12 months and shaggy...

LostInWales · 01/09/2013 11:10

I daren't even post, Biscuit slept from midnight until 6.30 (I stayed up late and my teen always gets up early). He let her out and she did a wee (crate was clean), she had her breakfast and then stood at the door to be let out and did a poo on the lawn where our big dog always goes. She hasn't whinged or had a single accident and she and whippety boy curled up together and had a nap on the sofa like it was all they had ever done. I know we were due some luck but this is spooky!

Yay for Toby's sausage poo! Even if his brief foray back onto the old food gives him a bad tummy for a little while at least you know what will be causing it and how to make him better now. My girl has scrambled egg everyday (she is a spoilt little princess) but I am sure this is why her poo is solid.

Have fun taking Enzo out, how exciting. I bet he will find a million and one exciting things to sniff.

Awks · 01/09/2013 11:29

Scarambled eggs, do they like that then and is it one of their 3 meals a day? Or am I just making work for myself, hmmmmmmm.

It's lovely reading about all these pups - keep all the posts coming.

Jarvis is good (apart from the odd wee accident) I have sussed that I was giving him some dried chicken as treats and that was making him really thirsty so he drank loads and wee'd more. So back to the kibble as treats with hot dog bits for really good work Grin

She has been having it for her breakfast every day and sometimes her supper too (otherwise she has a low sugar farley's rusk!) She came with a very comprehensive feeding list which is very different to our last dog. Her breeder is pretty expert in the field so I think whippety boy will be benefiting from a much nicer diet now she is around.
