So I've booked him in. Poor soul. But life should be easier once its done. Can anyone tell me what kind of pain relief and for how long I can offer him when he's been for his chop? He's a yorkie if that helps

They will send you home with some metacam or similar ,TBH most dogs get over it very quickly .

Thank god. It wont put him in a nasty mood will it? I can't see him allowing the cone to stay on either.

Mine had metacam on the day of the op and the next morning but was fine after that. He didn't have to wear a cone either as left it alone bar the odd lick.

He was whiney the first evening, sleepy the next dsy but then back to normal.

MadeOfStarDust · 01/08/2013 10:24

Mine was fine, came home dosed up, slept for a day or 2 and did not need a cone - as we said he was crated (cone and crate do not mix) so they did a different type of stitch..

Lora1982 · 01/08/2013 10:28

Thats good to know, he sleeps in a dog carrier with an almost playpen thing round it so I'll mention that and avoid the cone.

I think I only gave mine the metacam the day after as well TBH he didn't seem like he'd had anything done .

Mine didn't seem to notice. He boinged out of the vets, jumped the receptionists desk for a fuss, and then carried on as normal.

Mine was given a tablet for 3 days to help with the pain and he was fine. He wore the collar of shame at night when we wasn't watching him. He was sleepy first two days. Overall I don't think he's worked out something's missing! Not the brightest.

CMOTDibbler · 01/08/2013 15:29

Mine didn't really notice - but hated his cone (which he still had in his crate). But he had to wear it for the full 10 days as he'd had to have his dew claws off at the same time

My mums collie sulked for a few days, but was fine after a week. Pain relief for 48hrs.
