How old was your puppy when you put a collar on?

Just that really. He has had a whelping band on but I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get him used to wearing a little collar from about 9/10 weeks. UA this too young and should it be removed when put in his crate?

I put a collar on our golden when we brought him home at 8 weeks. I don't think you take it off in the crate but we don't have a crate so not sure bout that.

I put one on as soon as we got him at 8 weeks as I wanted time to get used to it before we went out. To be honest I started attaching the lead after a few days for a minute every now and then too so it that isn't landed on them as soon as you go out for the first time.

I didn't take it off either but no sure whether I should have done!

A few hours after I brought him home.

I think you are supposed to take their collars off in crates in case they catch, but I never have.

I did that as well with the lead. Got a lightweight one and put it on and let him run around for a little bit everyday without picking it up.

I put a collar on our golden lab from the day i got her. I try to remember to take it off when she goes in her crate but i don't always.

From the minute we pick up, never taken off. We attach a name tag so I prefer it to stay on in case of any accidental losses.

I started putting one on mine when she was about 10 weeks for short periods of time to get her used to it. Then I practised walking her around the house and garden with a lead on after a week or so. She was good to go for walks injection wise by 12 weeks.

She only wears a collar when she's going out now. We did leave it on all the time but it wore a little groove in her fur even though it wasn't too right.

Ours had her collar on as it helped with getting her used to the lead etc. once she was house trained the collar came off and was used with the lead as a signal for walkies! I don't like collars on dogs at home, and haven't needed them but who knows what our new puppy will be like!

I have 3 dogs and they don't wear collars generally, they have harnesses for walking, I'd read too much about freak accidents with dogs getting jaws caught under collars when playing with fatal results. Sad
