King Charles Spaniel - seed in ear?

My KC Spaniel yelped yesterday when my son was scratching his ears ( the way he always does - he usually loves it). He's since been shaking his head as though his ears are bothering him. He does run through long grass and corn/wheat every day where we walk and having googled his symptoms, I'm now worried that he may have a grass seed stuck in his ear.

He went to the groomers today and she could see no evidence of mites.

Does anyone have any experience of grass seeds in ears? Until today I'd never heard of it. He's got a vets appointment in the morning.

Get it seen to asap. My DSis's greyhound had several in different places, nearly died twice and cost a frickin foooooortune. One she'd swallowed.
I hate to scare you Sad but don't let them fob you off.

Grass seeds in ears are very common. We do tend to remove them under sedation or anaesthetic so as not to cause pain. Left untreated they can move south and cause more problems.
The other common place is between toes so it is worth checking your dogs feet after every walk.

Oh yes. Our cavalier got grass seeds in his ear a couple of times and had to have them removed at the vets. Lots of scratching and head shaking each time too. Good thing you already have he vet appt.

Thanks everyone. Took him yesterday and the vet sedated him and removed a very long grass seed from deep within his ear. Hopefully he'll be fine now.
