Preparing for having dog pts

Our beautiful girl was diagnosed with kidney disease in March. Until recently she's been pretty good. Anyway she's now off her food and has been sick several times. She also has a heart murmur which has caused her to have a couple of fainting episodes, although the vet doesn't think that her heart is too bad. If she carries on as she is and doesn't pick up then I think we'll need to make that horrible decision .

I don't want her to suffer she's been a lovely pet and I owe it to her to make sure she doesn't suffer. Shes insured so cost isn't an issue with treatment. The thing I'm wondering is whether to pay for private cremation with her ashes return or whether to spend money on a company that cast and frame your pets pawprints?

We have had several pets ( dogs ,horses and a rabbit) privately cremated and kept the ashes ,we always use the same crematorium .we knew our first horse only had a short time left and found a crematorium we were happy with and spoke to the chap in advance which was very reassuring . We have used him several times since . Sorry about your dog x

I think today's the day . What do you do with the ashes not sure I want to keep her in the cupboard.x

I was in the same boat in December with my beloved boy.

I got his ashes back in a lovely little box with his name engraved on it. It was only about 60 poounds difference between them keeping him and me getting him back.

I kept his ashes on the side board above where he would lay. It's a nice box so it looks ok. I'm not sure what to do with them long term. May scatter them on the beach one day but for now they are there.

You can request a scatter box/urn. ?I think other types may be sealed. Your vet can advise.

I lost my girl just over 2 weeks ago. I asked for a cremation through the vets (although at the time I didn't know what it was going to cost, had I been a bit more rational I might not have opted for the cremation)

Like you I don't know what to do with the ashes. My mum sprinkled her old dog's ashes around the base of a tree they planted, so I'm tempted to do that, except I want to move house in the next couple of years, so I might have to get a young tree and plant it in a pot with the ashes, then transfer it when I eventually move.

I have had all my dogs cremated and taken their ashes to their favourite beach to scatter them at the furthest point, where hardly anyone else ever manages to walk up to.

Every year I leave dh with the dcs and hike up there on my own, sit quietly - just me and the nosiest seals on earth and spend some time thinking about them all.

It comforts me to think about them all running free together in their favourite place and as it was my Dad's favourite place in the world and also where we scattered his dog's ashes, I like to think of him perhaps walking the whole gang of them together.

We have our Belgian Hares ashes on a shelf in our lounge ,he's in a lovely wooden box with his name on and we keep his photo in a frame in front of it .

Well the deed has been done today and it was really peaceful at home on the Sofa. couldn't have wished for it to go better really. Lots of tears although more for ourselves than anything as she was a rescue who we gave a lovely life to.

We think we'll have her ashes back that's what overdrafts are for, just need to decide whether to Scatter them or keep them. They do a lovely photo frame that the ashes go in the back.xx
