Be gentle.

We've taught our dog to 'be gentle' when taking snacks or treats from us (he's big, with big teeth and we have kids so...) he's taken this command to heart and he's overly gentle, he raises his head really slowly and carefully, lips quivering and then actually takes it with his lips so no teeth involved at all.

Thing is this is very time consuming, and he does this with everything he's taught. Takes it very seriously. I taught him to give me his paw and he even tries to give it to me while standing up so regularly falls on his face. How do I keep teaching him without him being so earnest?
