Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I think I need to go on a basic first aid for dogs course... will have to find one that I can get to at some stage. We do have a basic pet first aid kit that we keep in the car for emergencies.

Tags - I think the large tags can get a good amount on having seen them at the vets - but the site doesn't show you how much you can have engraved which isn't very helpful.

Hi all!

Am feeling rather cross and frustrated with shydog so she's in the garden with her kong while I am indoors. Left her for half an hour while I did the school run, with a nice kong stuffed with stinky pilchards and while I've been gone she has raided the bin and shredded the contents, and chewed another corner of my new dining set. It's like she's spent the full half hour in destroy mode! Half tidied, swept and mopped, and am now sat with a cuppa counting to ten.

So despite all my efforts to avoid having a massive crate in the house I have bitten the bullet and ordered one. Sad I can't risk the house being wrecked - it's a gamble each time I go out, and so unpredictable as most of the time she is fine! Moosemama I ordered from the site you recommended so thanks for the link on my thread I did last week.

Any tips on crate training for when it arrives? I've never used a crate before and want to get it right.

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 09:17

It needs to be somewhere that she gets things that she likes - and don't shut the door initially! I've never crate trained though, so I can't really help that much.

Those looking at tags, I am tempted to get ShyDog one of these:

Hope the link works! You can have anything you want put on them, front and back. We currently have an engrave in shop one from PAH an d it's not great, wouldn't get one again.

The vet wrap slid down when we went for our walk this morning so guessing my fear of putting it on too tight led to me not putting it on tight enough. He ran around like a loon with the neighbours dog this morning so guessing its not too bad moosemama!! Have re-wrapped it once home and ill keep an eye on it.

Sorry to hear that YourHandInMyHand :(. I've never had a destructive dog or a crate so can't help at all! Hope you get t sorted for the sake of your sanity!

Did anyone see the whippet x on scruples called Whizzy whizz? She is being fostered by the lady who had Mali so I messaged her today and she said she didn't contact me as she's very quiet and laid back but she does have a young whippet x who she loves but said she can't cope with 7 dogs so really can't keep her. She's said we can visit her but he hasn't met cats so not sure we should meet we until she's been tested as I don't want the boys to be disappointed. She said she's very playful so I think the boys would love her. Haven't got any pics but will post when I do :).

No word so far on Flo or Pippy with cats :(

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 09:33

I would just be a little bit worried about one of those large rings getting caught on something whilst in bushes... They are nice looking though - and different.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 09:44

Anyone seen Annie? Dh is in a meeting so can't call him, she's gorgeous though right?

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 09:48

She is very gorgeous - and looks nicely smaller than a grey. Hopefully, having Peanut would help keep her with you rather than off doing naughty saluki non-recalls!

She is cat friendly too which is a big bonus.

I would think that its a good colour to be non-worrying for mindees parents (which sounds really silly, but some people are anti-black dogs and think that they look dangerous just because of the colour).

YourHandInMyHand · 05/09/2013 09:50

Hmm I didn't think of that mistlethrush! Mine often disappears into bushes. :-/

Will definitely make crate a nice place for her to be, still don't really want one but think it's the most practical solution.

You are all very naughty mentioning all these lovely pointies waiting for homes Grin. I always want to look but I stop myself as I would want to take them all home and can't.

YourHandInMyHand · 05/09/2013 09:51

Annie is a stunner. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 09:52

She looks perfect apart from location! Dh wouldn't take Tess without meeting her and she went before we could get there. She's in urgent and in north Devon so not really visiting distance! Need to speak to him and see if we can go for a foster with intention to adopt so its not full on responsibility with no going back.

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 09:53

Well, I had a really weird dream when I was semi awake during (one of the many periods of sleeplessness) last night. I think that it was the garden we left when I was 10 - but there was an apple tree where my climbing frame was - and mistlehound was going all jumpy and chasy down the garden and somehow managed to get caught high up in the apple tree, too high to reach... So perhaps getting caught on things is particularly on my mind at the moment.

Combined with a martingale collar, a tag that got caught on something could be very bad news.

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 09:54

I would speak to Kaye about that - realistically she'll have to travel at least some of the way back to Yorkshire to get a foster family in any case.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 10:00

Just checked my house to Taunton is 286miles and 4 1/2hrs according to my phone!

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 10:03

I bet someone could bring her at least some of the way up - there are regular calls for transport help.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 10:15

That's kind of what I thought but will depend if dh is happy to go for her without visiting first! He point blank refused with Tess but perhaps its because he wasn't really taken with her.

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 10:43

She has a lovely face - a bit cheeky. Is any of the rest of her old thread still visible?

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 11:05

I emailed dh so he could reply once back to his office and his said go for it!

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 11:09

The rest of her original thread is on the 'Annie' name - still sounds ideal and has been sharing a house with a greyhound and quite small boy by the look of it.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 11:31

That's what I thought too! I've messaged Kaye about how she's getting out as we've got the forest behind us so she may jump the fence and go for deer :(. I said I was happy to keep her on a lead on walks but if she's likely to jump our 6ft back fence it won't be good. We don't leave peanut out in the garden but when it's warm we leave the door open and I guess we could be in the kitchen and not see. Hoping she'll say she can't jump a 6ft fence and it'll be fine!

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 11:35

Generally speaking, from what I've seen, if you have a 6' back fence its considered adequate for most dogs. Although the bedlington cross I went to the class with got over that high - and they've had to cut down all their trees as she was using the trees to get over the fence... Mine doesn't go over our 4' front gate - I'm sure she could, easily, if she wanted, but she doesn't.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 13:53

Peanut hasn't moved from the sofa since I got home from the school run, he's shuffled around a few times but still on the sofa for 5 hours!!!!

mistlethrush · 05/09/2013 17:45

Mistlehound can do that... She goes out with the dog walker for an early lunchtime walk - and I swear she doesn't move off the sofa from when she gets in until when DS and I get home.

PeanutPatty · 05/09/2013 19:35

Love Annie's ears! Preeeeeeeeetty GrinGrin
