Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

LiW - yes, sandy / tan dogs just disappear at dusk - I now know why lions are the colour they are! I once went on a moonlit night walk with my parents two collie crosses and mistledog (before mistlehound) - the black and white one stood out like a sore thumb. The black one was obviously black (quite surprising). My tan dog - you could see her shadow only !!!

LostInWales · 30/08/2013 13:12

Stealth dogs, I was thinking we could put that to some use then remembered mine is a whippet so whilst beautiful he is really quite dim Wink. Are lurchers a bit brighter, they use them for lamping a lot don't they? (Well they do round here but it is pretty rural).

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 13:25

Mines a probably failed worker. At times, faced with a field of bunnies, I have got closer to them than she has - she just froze. A single bunny hiding in a bush 50m away is another thing though - and she's straight there. I think that she might have been told off or something. But she's very happily rather dim - I think there's lots of greyhound in her make up - not too much between the ears. After 9 months of being hit on the nose by various treats, she has, I think, learned to 'catch' Grin

LostInWales · 30/08/2013 13:32

We have that! I love the puzzled expression he gets on his face when another treat bounces on his nose, 18 months and he is still clueless. Had a great game of fetch last week where he would run after the toy, head butt it a little then run back to me with his 'throw it, throw it again, chase, chase' happy face on totally not understanding why I had nothing for him to throw. Never mind, he is very beautiful and loves running very fast in circles which is basically all we ask of him. Don't like to think of mistlehound getting told off, they take things so to heart don't they, lovely dogs.

moosemama · 30/08/2013 13:43

Definitely no room for any more. House is full to bursting as it is and I promised dh we'd get a pup that was smaller than Lurcherboy, but apparently failed dismally with that! Grin

Aw LIW she's (Not he right? - please excuse my dreadful memory. Blush) absolutely gorgeous. Seeing pictures like those make me realise how skinny Pip still is. He feels and looks so much better to us now, we sometimes forget what a bag of bones he still is. Huge Big Bang Theory fans here - given that we live with Mini-Sheldon! Wink

Oldgirl had an amazing coat. Double coated, being cross Belgian and Collie, really thick and glossy and water literally just ran off her, so she never felt the damp or cold. She'd spend hours lying in the middle of the lawn in rain or snow without so much as a shiver. She had a huge, gorgeous neck ruff as well, that had just about every colour in it, black, brown, fawn, gold, grey, white. Ah - she was a beautiful girlie. Sad

I think it varies in the brain department with Lurchers. Lurcherboy is nice, but dim - although not as air brained as some, whereas Pip seems pretty sharp so far and is moving quite quickly with his clicker training.

moosemama · 30/08/2013 13:46

You can't tell Lurcherboy off, he takes it terribly to heart and takes to his bed with a look of utter misery for the rest of the day - sometimes several days. Grin

LostInWales · 30/08/2013 15:08

She's a lovely plump little puppy, you can feel the layer of fat under her coat, absolutely lovely. She is coming with a feeding chart that includes scrambled egg for breakfast and a mashed up rusk for supper Grin, whippety boy was very skinny in comparison which now I realise he came from basically a puppy farm for whippets Angry makes sense. Oooh that woman will suffer some torments in hell for treating pointy dogs the way she does.

I forgot we had matching sons moose. DS1 has a collection of Sheldon t-shirts and thinks it is a compliment when I tell him not to be such a Sheldon Hmm Grin

moosemama · 30/08/2013 15:13

Aw. Smile We've missed out on that with Pip, because he was skeletal when he came and is still underweight. He still loves a nice snuggle though, especially if he can squeeze his neck in under your chin. Smile

Grin Ds is after the Sheldon, friendship algorithm tshirt. It makes me laugh every single time he stands next to me and taps my arm in time to "Mummy, Mummy, Mummy"! Grin ... and every time I have to explain to him why I'm laughing. Grin

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 15:16

I get 'Dad'. No, DS, I'm not Dad, I'm Mum, remember? 'Mum'! Yes DS.... Grin

LostInWales · 30/08/2013 15:17

DS1 does that too, 'mummy, mummy, mummy' Grin at least I haven't had to sing 'soft kitty' to him yet!

moosemama · 30/08/2013 15:56

Dd calls me Daddy all the time too. Grin

Think ds1 would object if I tried singing Soft Kitty to him. He strongly denies that he bears any resemblance whatsoever to Sheldon!

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 15:59

DS calls DH 'mum' so I don't feel too badly done by. DS is too robust to be a Sheldon. And too empathetic (most of the time)

moosemama · 30/08/2013 16:25

Ah now dd never calls dh Mummy. She's a reall Daddy's girl. Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2013 18:59

Gorgeous gorgeous puppy LostInWales!!!!

There's a LL calendar, how lovely :)

Just filled in another application, thanks moosemama!

I can't join in with Big Bang theory as I've never watched an episode :(

Had a horrible day, felt terrible this morning, very emotional and one of the boys I mind is a little difficult at times. Decided to clean the house and it actually made me feel better. Still haven't thought about tea but hey can't have everything!

moosemama · 30/08/2013 19:19

Cinnamon, it's Friday night, get a take-away.

Sorry you've had a bad day. Hope you have a nice weekend to make up for it.

LL Calendars - Mistlehound is a supermodel! Grin

I couldn't face cooking tonight either, so I bunged a baked omelette in the oven, then sat and MNetted while it baked. Blush

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 19:29

We're on a takeaway Blush. Feel like a bit of a celebration as MiL has moved into her cottage!!!

moosemama · 30/08/2013 20:00

My omelette ended up upside-down in dd's toy medical kit. Suffice to say it was an incident involving a certain wayward puppy. Hmm Grin

Then when I'd managed to retrieve what was salvageable and start to eat it, he decided to find the one and only hama bead dd dropped today (she had them on a tray at the table) so I ended up having to put my hand down his throat to retrieve it. Not an experience that tends to increase appetite. Bleugh!

Enjoy your take away celebration Mistle. Smile

PeanutPatty · 30/08/2013 20:29

The LL calendar is gorgeous. Is that Mistlehound on the front?

mistlethrush · 30/08/2013 20:40

No, she's not on the front. She's somewhere in the middle! Blush

DH was despairing as we were on holiday and every morning and evening when I was walking her (on my own) I was coming back with 'another' 500 or so snaps that had to be sieved through so that we didn't have TOO many '000s of pictures from the week Blush. I was 'getting to know' a new (well, 2nd hand) camera, so that's my excuse at least.

PeanutPatty · 30/08/2013 20:55

As in the seventh month?

Bloody lovely bunch of dogs there. Love it that one is called Mince!

moosemama · 30/08/2013 21:33

Have just put some new pictures of Pip on my profile if anyone's interested. Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2013 21:35

Bleugh! Just wrote a post and lost it! Shortened version peanut played on green with the dog I've been walking and had a great time. Sorry to hear about your omelette moosemama. I will be getting a calendar and I've just seen Tess has been homed so we won't get chance to visit her :(

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2013 21:38

Lovely pics moosemama!

I'm a total camera fiend mistlethrush, my phone is almost full because of photos! Prefer my camera loads but phone is so convenient.

PeanutPatty · 30/08/2013 21:38

Awwwwwwww Moose! I want both your dogs. Please.

LostInWales · 30/08/2013 21:39

Aw Pip, you beautiful, beautiful boy. What a lovely picture of the two of them curled up sleeping. Do other dogs curl around like pointys do? I've never seen other breeds do that.

Moose I am NOT laughing about your omlette at all, oh no. Because actually be very bad karma for this time tomorrow. eeek.
