Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Cinnamon, I did wonder if he might be too hairy, but Cherry Nyx has very similar fur. I saw her when I first started looking and by coincidence she has similar fur and markings to Pip.

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 16:40

Rather similar looking to mistlehound - although MH is longer and has a longer nose (more greyhound probably). I do love a nice scruffy.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 16:48

My head says Tess is perfect for us by my heart doesn't :(

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 16:49

Could be because Cherry Nyx is lighter she looks less furry?

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 17:32

I so want another dog. Our dog was having a great time with another dog this afternoon. Running round sniffing together. I realise its totally different to living with one.

moosemama · 28/08/2013 17:41

I think Cherry's fur is a bit smaller, but I think she would be just as shaggy allergy wise.

Something like Lurcherboy would be a good compromise. If you look on my profile pics you should be able to see he's scruffy/shaggy round the edges and has a lovely Deerhound beardy face, but isn't too shaggy all over.

moosemama · 28/08/2013 17:42

Smaller? I meant shorter obviously. Blush

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 17:52

The scruffy ones seem so charismatic. Do they moult like buggery?

moosemama · 28/08/2013 17:55

In our case - I'd probably have to say yes, but it's controllable with a good zoom groom once a week, unlike the double coated breeds I've had in the past.

Not sure if I'm right, but I assume Bedlington crosses wouldn't be as bad for moulting, depending if they lean towards their Beddie side or whatever they're crossed with.

moosemama · 28/08/2013 17:57

Lurcherboy can look amazingly regal and charismatic sometimes when he's just sitting/lying there gazing into the distance.

Of course once you spend more than a couple of minutes with him you realise it's all an illusion and actually he's really nice - but dim. Bless him! Grin

OnaPromise · 28/08/2013 17:57

Yes Heidis pups are gorgeous! I wish we could put ourselves forward for one of those but we really aren't able just at the moment for various reasons.

Mistlethrush - what is happening in Peterborough? Not anywhere near me unfortunately but just interested.

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 17:58

Is LurcherBoy a smoothie?

moosemama · 28/08/2013 18:25

Nope, he's a scruffy. Deerhound/Saluki x Greyhound/Border Collie. He has the Deerhound face (eyebrows and beard) and Border Collie neck ruff and tail fringe. He also has a scruffy chest, bloomers, back legs and tum.

His back however has a lovely thick shiny coat that lays pretty smooth, other than over his shoulders.

Hard to describe. I suppose not long-coated, so much as scruffy in the truest sense of the word.

Hang on, I'll see if I can find a picture of another dog that looks like him, as none of his pictures seem to show his coat up properly.

Sort of a cross between <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?sa=X&biw=1440&bih=701&tbm=isch&tbnid=nZ_LFVuTsnW-bM:&imgrefurl=www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/208104-ruff-coated-bull-cross-eg-bull-deerhound-gray-or-bull-beddy-gray/&docid=Acz0oMjm0_rvcM&imgurl=i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k628/ROCKY118/STA72701-3.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=pS8eUvrZJIPU0QXp04DQBw&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:29,s:0,i:178&iact=rc&page=2&tbnh=169&tbnw=223&start=18&ndsp=28&tx=112&ty=116#imgdii=_" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the first three dogs on this page only much more handsome, with a more Deerhoundy head/face.

He gets much shaggier in the winter and has a sleek back and sides during the summer, if we keep up to date with his grooming.

He's gawjus - but them I may be a touch biased Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 18:35

He is lovely moosemama!!!

I was suggested a bedlington terrier x as they apparently dont shed a lot.

Thinking of contacting the lady who was rehoming Mali to see if she has any suitable dogs.

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 18:57

Ours is probably bedlington x and she doesn't moult much - and I've pulled out quite a bit of coat in a bit of a stripping session one evening on our Easter half term holiday.

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 20:48

I do like a scruffy. I guess until I can persuade my husband that another dog is a good idea I will have to window shop some mode. I guess, like you Cinammon that having children and a cat makes everything more complicated in the search.

Perhaps a Beddie x might suit us too.

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 21:03

*mode GAH! More

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 21:04

I think I would have Colin from LL if I could choose one at the mo.... He looks delightfully full of fun.

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 21:26

Colin is lovely. Gorgeous scruffy face.

moosemama · 28/08/2013 21:35

Colin is gorgeous, but the noisy SA would definitely put me off.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 21:47

I asked about Colin because I love the look of him but she said he's a really live wire and not suitable for us at all :(

PeanutPatty · 28/08/2013 21:58

I like Milo. He's been rehomed tho which is not surprising as he sounds like a rare gem eg kid/cat/dog friendly

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 21:58

No, he's not suitable for us either... but he still looks gorgeous!

My beddie x is much calmer I think - she does have her moments - but she's very quiet and we've managed to get the potential SA under control and not problematical - she's even been left in my parents' house on her own for a couple of hours without incident.

moosemama · 28/08/2013 22:02

I'm hiding in here, because I've gone and got myself into a ruck with another poster on the 'please help me address this behaviour' thread. I shouldn't have reacted, but am far too tired and unwell to use any degree of sensible judgement. Blush I should know by now that it's safer to just stick to the pointy and puppy threads.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 22:09

:( moosemama

Was Milo the saluki cross? I didn't think he was cat friendly as I looked at him. Milo seems a popular name for dogs I've seen recently.

Have been sent email address for the lurcher SOS lady to ask if the make any exceptions for under 6's with an idea of homing Iona. She also said that with all out criteria we may not be able to find a dog we're attracted to but one that's suitable Confused
