Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I saw mistlehound down the garden, scoffing something earlier and stopped her (at least she responds now) and found out it wasn't fat dropped by magpies, but probably cat poo. Delightful. Its all been picked up and removed. Envy (not envy)

She likes raw tomatoes. Very strange. And she doesn't like thin slices of apple - all the dogs I have had have liked that - so strange again.

Been to the physio today - he was very pleased with my progress but thinks it will tak 6 - 8 months to get back to normal - and has warned that there's a possibility I've done too much internal damage that might need surgical intervention - but he's hopeful that it will be OK with exercises. Hurts like hell when he works on my leg. He thinks that I've actually broken on of the muscles that is at the bottom of my calf going downwards, in addition to all the damage to my ankle.

moosemama · 27/08/2013 22:24

Fingers crossed for you not needing surgery mistle. It's a little over a year since I did mine and I'm still having physio, but am a million times better than I was even a couple of months ago.

It takes a long time for these things to heal, which is why I find it so unfair when people don't take you seriously if you don't have your leg/foot in a cast, so they can clearly see you have broken something - you have broken something, just not bones.

I've just received a letter referring me to podiatry this week, as the structure of my foot has changed and apparently I need some sort of orthotic to help stabilise it.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/08/2013 22:25

Glad to hear you're on the mend mistlethrush! Physio is supposed to hurt to be effective :(
Nelly would eat anything, I've seen her scrape a run over frog off the road with her teeth but peanut isn't as bad he doesn't even eat horse poo Grin. Love that you feel you need to say it's not envy Wink Peanut loves apples and bananas and I have to be very careful when the kids are eating them. He bit the top of ds2's banana last week and ran off to his little spot that he takes his chews to in the garden.

He's definitely back to normal, had a fab run tonight only 3.5miles but he sounded like a herd of horses catching my after a sniff fest on several occasions :)

PeanutPatty · 27/08/2013 22:26

Thanks Smile

Poodles are kinda pointy non? Grin

I'll work on my husband. I'll get my own way eventually. I'll wear the old bugger down with my constant moaning mutt chatter.

moosemama · 27/08/2013 22:29

My first ever dog used to drive my MIL stealing tomatoes off her vegetable rack. Grin None of my others have ever eaten them though - well not unless they're of the variety that's tinned with sardines included. Wink

All of my dogs have however, loved apples and carrots - except Pip. Having been fed on home cooked chicken for a fortnight he now thinks he's a prince that should only be hand-fed the finest of fresh meats. Fortunately, he has conceded that Fish 4 Dogs Training Stars are sufficiently superior enough for delicate royal tummies, so will now have those as well - if he's in the mood.

Ah - ha! Lurcherboy is howling in his sleep! Grin Uh, no, he's woken himself up now and is looking really Confused

moosemama · 27/08/2013 22:31

Peanut, I just saw a gorgeous Great Dane x Poodle on the Fish 4 Dogs website. It looked just like a lovely scruffy wolf/deerhound lurcher, only merle. Beautiful. Smile

mistlethrush · 27/08/2013 22:31

A poodle / whippet or grey would be lurcher... Wink

Moose - I had a run in with a podiatrist due to foot pain about 6 yrs ago - very positive outcome (no surgery).

Cinnamon - I love the sound of racing feet galloping to catch up (and the accompanying grin (on the dog)). Our first dog who was actually rather lurchery now I think about it, would pull you across the market square to stand in the road and scrape a doughnut that had been squashed into the road surface for at least a week....

moosemama · 27/08/2013 22:41

You've just reminded me of some awful song-lyrics our best mate quotes from some alternative bad:

"Splat, splat, splat, dead squirrel, deat rat! Scrape me up ... I'm road pizza!" Envy Grin

Oft quoted on long car journeys through the countryside. Blush

PeanutPatty · 27/08/2013 22:49

If the dog can keep up whilst I run then send the dog this way! Grin

I wanna dog. I wanna dog. I wanna dog. Sad

moosemama · 27/08/2013 22:55

Oops. That should have said alternative 'band'. Blush

Bed time I think ....

mistlethrush · 27/08/2013 23:00

Peanut - I have to go flat out to get mistlehound to break lope into run - and she's not very tall!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/08/2013 23:02

I don't run fast peanutpatty but he stops for so long he does a mega sprint to catch up :). We've done 5 miles tops together but one of my club buddies wants us to train the dogs to do the east coast half marathon next year! I told her I don't think peanut will make it, her Doberman has done a full marathon with her Shock. Hoping to take both dogs once we've got a pair and perhaps if the new ones up for it she/he can come on my longer weekend run, when I leave peanut home sleeping ;)

cinnamongreyhound · 27/08/2013 23:04

It is annoying when he runs along side me barely more than walking but at the end of 45-50 mins I've got lots left and he's ready for bed so that's quite nice :)

mistlethrush · 27/08/2013 23:23

Cinnamon- if there was more distance, mistlehound would be quite happy to join you!

moosemama · 28/08/2013 08:56

Daft question probably, but would you consider a different breed for your second dog cinnamon?

My Oldgirl would have run with you, at heel as far as you wanted her to, she could pace the whole day if you wanted her to and was absolutely brilliant with children, again, playing as long as they wanted her to and then some. She was a Border Collie x Belgian Shepherd and a complete nightmare as a puppy, but awesome as an adult.

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 09:02

The right collie greyhound lurcher would be a really good running partner. And good at playing. Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 09:24

I suppose we could, it's just the unknown I suppose if you're rescuing. I love greyhounds and kind of have a lurcher in my mind who's a bit scruffy. We are walking my neighbours collie x something as she's broken her foot and he's so different to peanut! So bright but peanut really wants to play and he doesn't, or not with peanut anyway. He looks to me the whole time, he will run with peanut but seems to want him to leave him alone most of the time. Actually felt a bit sad for peanut this morning, like a kid who really wants to be friends but the other kid couldn't care less :(

The lady who has Pie has a secure field so they can run together so we can how they get on, I'm nervous about another big dog as he's a could of kg more than peanut but Peanut is no problems even though he's big :)

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 09:35

I have a friend with two LARGE greys. Apart from the fact that you have to sit on the floor as all the comfortable chairs are occupied by dog, they are no problem. Although, last time I visited, a whole chicken (cooked) disappeared, and the room was going rather green with the resultant flatulence. Grin

moosemama · 28/08/2013 09:56

Oo yes, a lovely glossy black and white collie lurcher would be perfect - OR - one of Heidi's pups, there's definitely collie in there with all those beautiful merles.

How about this guy. He's gorgeous.

Still think Pie's gorgeous as well though.

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 10:12

I would think something like Ryder would be a nice addition... although he's not learned to be cat friendly. He looks a lovely dog though. Wish I could persuade DH that we could really do with 2....

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 13:44

Ryder is gorgeous but really would like someone already good with cats as mine have been through quite a bit of disruption this year! My dh was surprisingly easy to persuade :)

Couldn't get your link to work moosemama :( I'd have Uno in a flash if I won the lottery and didn't have to work but its too much otherwise keeps telling self it's a bad idea

I'm quite annoyed I had a call today from the lady looking to rehome Pie as she'd been told that we were interested in Tess and may not be visiting Pie after all :(. I'm cross because I said we'd consider Tess but that we'd made arrangements and fully intended to meet Pie and see how the boys got on. Apart from it being a blatant non truth it makes us sound really flaky Angry

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 15:33

Have posted a new photo of Tess on my profile

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 15:35

Just tried your link from my laptop and it works moosemama, must be a flash player issue when I'm on my phone. He's gorgeous but too hairy for dh :(

mistlethrush · 28/08/2013 15:36

I like the look of Tess - and bully lurchers can be the soppiest, friendliest dogs.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 15:56

The lady who rang says she doesn't think she's bull but labrador? I don't know enough to say.

This little lady is more what I had in mind :)
