Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound :o).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

I don't want to pester was only 5.30 last night but just wondered. I keep looking and thinking of possibilities but unless that comes back positively there's not a lot of point!

mistlethrush · 23/08/2013 23:45

Cinnamon - if you are desperate, contact the person that set the homecheck up for you by pm. Its pretty unlikely its a 'no' - however, there might be a set of parameters set up to ensure that the dog you're matched with is likely to be suitable (one of the things that I like LL about)

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 10:26

The lady who did the homecheck called me this morning and left a message about Tally being available and me contacting EGLR so I guess that's a good sign!

moosemama · 24/08/2013 11:31

Fingers crossed cinnamon. How exciting! Grin

PeanutPatty · 24/08/2013 13:20

I would love it if you got Tally!!!!

I walked with my friend and her Podenco this morning. She looks nothing like Tally. The dog. Not my friend. Boy this dog can run and run and run. Very very lean. Absolute machine. Not carrying enough weight and I imagine its tough to keep any weight on her as she will take as much exercise as you can throw at her. Her recall is pretty much on her terms tho I yelled as I saw her go after something and she did come back.

I'm going to talk to the man about the house about our dog situation again and whether to pursue the rescue we have in mind in at the mo or not.

moosemama · 24/08/2013 13:30

Tally vs Podenco

Breed info here makes them sound a lot like Lurchers. Also sounds like they might be more given to going running than your average Greyhound, which is something else that would suit you cinnamon.

froubylou · 24/08/2013 13:42

Tally looks lovely. Sounds really positive that you have passed.

Fingers crossed for you.

I'd never heard of podencos before. They sound lovely but very high maintenance to me. Love my laid back whippy lol.

We're having a sofa day today. She loves sofa days and her biggest dilemma is whether to curl up at the back ofmy legs or stretch out along the back of DP. But only when he has warmed the cold leather sofa up for her.

I've had a fair few dogs over the years but never one that likes to be warm and comfy as much as her. If I bring a basket of washing down and leave it at the side of the machine she curls up in there. And I have to take dry washing out of the tumble dryer straight upstairs or she jumps on top of the dryer to get in that whilst it's still warm.

Glad dogs can't get online. She would leave home if she could find someone who would let her sleep in bed with them!

TheCunnyFunt · 24/08/2013 19:59

Wish you lot would stop chatting so much shite, I can't keep up! Wink :o

To be honest I've not been around this week as DP had an accident at work on Monday so I've been running myself ragged looking after both DP and 2yo DD.

Had a quick flick through and yep, DD was 7.5 months old when Sprocket arrived, she was 5mo when we had our homecheck though. And I was told by one of the LGT staff that they rehome to families with children of any age, they'd even rehomed to a couple with a 6 week old baby Shock

mistlethrush · 24/08/2013 20:24

I suppose if you're getting up with the baby you can see to the dog at the same time Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 20:56

Thanks for the links moosemama! A bit more stamina is one of the reason I was looking for a lurcher rather than greyhound as my two get a bit fed up when pea it's run out of steam and they still want to throw a ball! Dh really wants Pie but I think a lot of that is he likes what he knows. I haven't managed to ring the lady back as I've had a busy day and thought 8 might be a bit late.

Peanut hasn't been himself the last two days, he's eating although slightly less than normal but has been really reluctant to go for his walks. When I got up Friday morning he wasn't on his bed and when I got downstairs he had poo'd on the floor. He was very slow running and as long as he could see me he trotted about 50m behind. He was fine on his walk later, then was asleep constantly after that. This morning we did the park run but with ds1 so covered 5k in 50mins and he pulled to go with the other runners at the start but then was at my heel. Tonight I took him out and when I let him off he stopped! I carried on walking and he didn't follow so I went back, asked if he wanted to go home and he wagged his tail then turned around and headed for home. He's had most of his tea and is on the sofa. It's nothing huge but just not quite right, I know I've only had him 8 weeks but feel we've got to know him well. I'm quite worried as we're going away for a night and leaving him with my mum for the first time :(. Dh has said he'll stay home but my mum is adamant he'll be fine and she'll call me, we're just over an hour away but any take him as we're in a b&b.

moosemama · 24/08/2013 21:15

Has it been as hot and muggy where you are as it has been here cinnamon.

Both mine, even turbo-powered Pip, have been a bit more sleepy, lazy than usual for the past couple of days, as the weather has been really odd.

Was it a normal poo, when he did it inside? They do say adopted dogs go through a honeymoon period where everything seems ok and then any problems or anxieties might start to show. It could just be that he needs to get used to his new exercise regime and might need a gentler, more gradual introduction.

If you're really concerned, especially with going away, would it be worth paying the cost of a consultation fee and just getting the vet to give him the once over?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 21:19

Friday was 29C and very muggy, rained over night so not so warm today. It was softish but not as soft as some has been since he's been here. It was just odd that we don't shut him in with us but he's always still on his bed in our room every morning. We did think it might be the weather he was his usual bouncy self when I got home today, he was with dh but still excited to see me. How's pip at night now?

moosemama · 24/08/2013 21:25

Sounds like it could well be the weather then. Glad he was happier when you got home today.

Pip is now sleeping through from 10.30/11.00 ish to 6.30 am! Shock We still haven't had the guts to sneak upstairs while he's asleep and see what happens though, mainly because the neighbours are back and I'm really worried about them hearing him, after everything with Finn.

Dh says tonight's the night though, so we're going to set up dd's old baby monitor, so we can hear him if he starts up, before he gets loud enough to bother the neighbours.

Dh is highly motivated to try Pip on his own now though, as I haven't been very well, so he's slept downstairs the last two nights. Grin (It's been lovely coming down in the morning and seeing how pleased he is to see me. Smile)

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 21:27

And it rained this morning so perhaps he was a bit slow because of that. We've only been out in the rain when we ran with other dogs and he was so excited then so perhaps he didn't notice. Maybe we need to invest in a coat, never had one for Nelly.

That's good news, are you keeping him downstairs long term? Hope you're feeling better now! I hate sleeping on the sofa, serious neck pain!

LostInWales · 24/08/2013 21:42

'Lo Scuttle, 'lo Cunny, 'lo pointy owners, I have been shoved back on here by my lovely aforementioned friends. So life out there is pretty shit BUT by this time next week, fingers crossed etc, etc we will have a lovely brown and white blue brindle puppy called biscuit, stopping us sleeping and pooing and weeing all over the shop Grin. I am having major guilts that we didn't get a rescue but as we were due to get one and then had to turn her down at the last minute (see 'life out there') so I have a lovely puppy coming from a 'good' breeder who shows (puppy's mum has had various awards at crufts!!!). I am going to ruin all this good work by letting the puppy get grubby at the beach and laze about with whippety boy eating scrambled eggs and sardines Grin.

Lovely to catch up with everyone, moosemamma I am with you on the puppy thread obviously. froubylou I bet your girl is gorgeous, I love brindles. I love that other MN people have popped in to provide snippets of pointy life that they have seen and thought of us all here.

moosemama · 24/08/2013 21:59

Yes, he'll be sleeping downstairs in the long-term. Dh and ds1 have asthma, so we don't let the dogs upstairs at all.

I'm doing tonnes of clicker work around him being quiet and relaxed in his crate, as am already stressing about the potential for him to yell while I'm on the school run. He's a gobby little so and so - just my luck to get a noisy one so soon after Lurcherboy's yodelling escapades.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 22:15

Dh is allergic to animals and asthmatic so Nelly was never allowed on our bed but he's very soft with peanut! He doesn't go on it when we're in it but he won't kick him off if he gets on when we're not. He's very good though, settles on his bed next to ours and is always there in the morning, if he's up he doesn't wake me. We used to shut Nelly in our shower room at night (very large) but peanut cried all night the first couple so we tried him with us and he's good as gold!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 22:16

Really hope he's good for you, to decrease your stress moosemama!

mistlethrush · 24/08/2013 22:40

Mistlehound sleeps in our room too - she decided on her first night that being on her own was far too scary and wanted to be with us - I think it probably helped with the housetraining as I simply woke up when she got up and immediately followed her downstairs and took her out if she got up in the night.

I managed to find another owner of a Sproket on a different forum and turn myself into 'mad stalkerish woman' by asking her whether she was on another forum talking about pointy hounds... she wasn't so I have apologised profusely and not contacted her again Blush

Mistlehound is going to have her nose put out when she gets homefrom being boarded - she's been sleeping ON beds whilst there.... Shock But it looks as though she's had a good time and not been too upset which is the main thing.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 07:07

Just checked me email and had a message just after midnight to say homecheck was fine :). She has suggested Iona but I replied saying there website states only children 6 and over and will see.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 07:07

Their website even!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 07:08

Forgot to ask where are you mistlethrush, somewhere sunny?

LostInWales · 25/08/2013 10:04

All the dogs on that page are stunning cinnamon, well done passing the homecheck, how exciting, will it be long before you can have one home? squirrels away website address for third dog which we aren't getting DH, oh no.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 11:09

I have no idea LostInWales, she said in the email now its just finding the right dog as children and cats make it more difficult :(

LostInWales · 25/08/2013 16:12

It's so hard waiting isn't it? Brilliant to know though that they will take care to find a dog that will fit your household so that you all stand a really good chance of being a forever family though.

Just had an awesome walk on the beach, the tide was going faaaaaar out and Whippety boy was bouncing through all the puddles left on the beach and in and out of the sea, he looked properly joyful. I was there mentally counting how long it was before all jabs are done and we can take whippey pup along too.
