Insurance for dog taken to work. Help!

Hello everyone, thanks for reading!

We're getting a working cocker puppy this weekend and I'm looking at insurance for her. She will be at home with me and DD until we've got toilet training/chewing/basic training sorted and then will be going into work with my husband. She won't be a working dog but will be in the office and out an about with my husband who is an army officer.

The problem is that I can't find anyone to insure her for this - not so bothered about accident insurance etc for her but she needs to have 3rd party liability cover for my husband to be allowed to take her with him.

Does anyone know of anyone who will cover us?

Thanks in advance Thanks

I don't remember our insurers asking where our dog was going to be spending time tbh. I don't bring him to work but may do at some point - didn't occur to me that his insurance wouldn't pay out in the event of anything happening in those circumstances.

Sorry, that's not much help to you I know!

I take my pet dog to work and require 3rd party liability insurance. What I did was to get a Dogs Trust membership which I think is an annual payment of £20ish. This covers any dogs you might have for 3PL, including in the work place so long as the dog isn't working.

I also have to have health insurance for her; but was happy to sort that out seperately to the 3PL ins.

Frettchen- that's brilliant! And so cheap. Have passed this on to the 5 other dog owners in the office who are not covered! Thanks again (I bloody love Mumsnet)

I can't take full credit - someone at work discovered it, but it is marvellous, and it's also benefitting a good cause, so I'm happy to spread the word!

My normal pet insurance includes third party liability and they were never interested in where the dog was being kept. Check all the small print in any quotes - it'll probably be in there.

"My normal pet insurance includes third party liability and they were never interested in where the dog was being kept"

Yes exactly, ours includes it as well. I assumed that was standard for pet insurance tbh.

I think I've made the mistake of asking the question of the insurers - petplan, John Lewis, kennel club, NFU & a couple of others definitely won't cover for that & I called them as the owners of the other office dogs thought they were covered by them! Think I'm going to go with petplan plus a dogs trust membership

Thanks To all for help
