quick insurance question

have to sort out insurance in next day or two for golden retriever puppy.

I have got a million quotes, but to be on the safe side I think I will go with PetPlan or Kennel Club. The prices though are horrendous ! I never dreamed the insurance would be so much.

My question is, is what level of cover to go for - they all seem to offer £4K or £7K - with the difference being about £10 a month. Petplan is £37/month for £7K cover. The Kennel Club was far worse!

What do most people have? Would £4K be reasonable for a puppy or, given that I have a golden retriever, should I be prepared for the worst?

Please help!

I have a 4k limit per condition, cocker spaniel and its £12 a month with Marks and Spencer. He had knee surgery last year and that cost £1500 and a lab I know had a brain tumour, sadly they lost her. The bill was £3000 ( was also Marks and Spencer)

I chose John Lewis in the end. The cover included all that of petplab for 13 pound a month less. I covered for 7k, on the basis that my sisters puppy got badly hurt by a car, and, with joint and ligament damage has cost 4000 in the last 5 months. he's fine now, but that's it for her insurance, he gets hurt again this year and it's down to her to pay for it Sad

I've got 7k on both dogs with Axa for £35.

My vet said that 7k is the minimum she would recommend because, like pregnantpause has said, one big accident and that the lot almost wiped out.

One big thing. Lifetime cover.

I've got Direct Line for my 2. £55 per month for both, lifetime with a £6k limit.

I am with M&S for GingerDog and TopCat. They were markedly cheaper than PetPlan and the KC and I have heard good reports.
Thankfully I have never had to claim on them so I cannot comment on how they are when you need them
Have claimed on PP and KC before and they were both really good :)

John Lewis - £7k cover for labradoodle puppy (so same sort of size), £28 per month.

Thanks, guys - I shall investigate further then.

We're with Argos for our golden retriever and the cover is £7000 per year for £32 per month.

He's only 2 and I reckon they've paid out £8k in claims so far.
