What time do you take out your hound and how long do they hold it for?

18month old shih tzu goes from 10.30pm til 7am
I'm trying to get it abit later in the mornings for weekend lay ins so I'm staying up late in the evenings but he still wakes me up at 6/7 Hmm

10pm at the earliest and the mobile mops bladder of steel means he can go through to 9am. Unfortunately my bladder is not made of the same steel!

fanoftheinvisibleman · 07/06/2013 22:52

Ours goes out at about quarter past midnight. In the week he goes out around 6am. On a sunday morning he sleeps in until 9 or 10 am no problem. We wake him so I have no idea how long he could go.

He is 10 months now but has done this from about 4 months. He doesn't really wake up properly until after mid day most days, it is his lazy time in a morning!

thegriffon · 08/06/2013 08:43

It varies, he never wakes up bursting to go. Last wee/poo was yesterday afternoon at 4.30 pm on walk. I offered to take him out at 10 pm last night but he just yawned and went back to sleep.
No wee yet this morning, he's had his breakfast, back in bed watching me for signs that walk is imminent.
So its its 8.30 so he's gone 16 hours. I think he prefers to wait until walks so he can spread his wee far and wide.

Thegriffon, he must be a big dog with a bladder like that! My fuzz ball lasts only 6 hours in the day when he's active. Got him down to a routine of 7am quick wee, 8.30am long walk for school, 2.30 long walk to school then dog field in at 4.30, then bedtime wee.

My lab can go from 10pm to 8am with a wee just before 10pm. But the last two mornings he has been whining from 6am, got him outside then he weed like a horse, went on and on. Took him for a walk last night round the block so he could completely empty his bladder by visiting every tree/shrub, so was ok until 8am this morning, but again his wee went on for ages which I have not noticed before. I know it is slightly off topic but as his water intake has not changed where is all this extra coming from?!!

thegriffon · 08/06/2013 13:03

punter - has he been swimming or paddling about in water in the warm weather? Perhaps that's where he's getting his water. My lab tends to swim with his mouth open drinking at the same time.

punter · 08/06/2013 13:53

thegriffon - oh yes he has just started to venture into the lake on his walk and splash about, thanks I had forgotten that. can't forget the smell though!

littlewhitebag · 08/06/2013 16:30

My dog goes out at 10 pm but tends whine to get out around 5.30. I wish I could get her to go longer. I think the light and the birds wake her.

TheCunnyFunt · 08/06/2013 19:53

Mine goes out at 9pm-ish, and then out again at 9am-ish. He has been known to go 17 hours before, and even then he wasn't bothered about going out. I have a feeling he'd never go out if I didn't force him (Greyhound) :o

Pandemoniaa · 08/06/2013 20:10

Senior Terrier has the bladder of a camel. He is also extremely regular so far as poos are concerned. They are done after breakfast and mid-afternoon. But he goes out at about 10.30 and can then wait quite comfortably till 8.30 in the morning.

Small Terrier, of course, needs to go out at 15 minute intervals. However, he can manage midnight to about 7 which I'm quite impressed about.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 08/06/2013 20:19

TheGriffon- have we the same dog?! Mine would rather sleep! He's under his duvet now and won't emerge until I put a lead on and drag him out tomo!!Grin

littlewhitebag · 08/06/2013 21:17

Oh how i envy the people with sleepy dogs. Can you ask them to have a word with my dog?

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 08/06/2013 21:19

Mines not normal Smile he's a terrier that's been 'moddycoddled' (sp)

deste · 08/06/2013 21:28

Ours has just gone out at 9.30 and he will sleep till about 9 ish but won't go out till about 9.30.

TrinityRhino · 08/06/2013 21:31

lolly goes out at about 9.30 to 10 for her last wee and she can go through till about 8 or 9 if I don't get up but I usually let her out at about 7

QueenFaeriecakes · 08/06/2013 21:45

My chunky monkey had me up at 4am today, it's not a quick trip to the garden...it's 2 flights or stairs and round the road, in leopard print baggy pjs and bird nest hair
