How to keep a dog amused in a cage for 8 weeks?

SmallDog is going to need to be confined to a lap or cage for the next few weeks. I'm wondering how we'll keep him amused for that long.

Is it better to keep the cage in the kitchen where he can't see us much or in the living room?

Should I get a Kong for when he's left alone? What should it be filled with?

Anything else?

Sorry, no advice; just thinking poor little thing! Hope it goes all right!

I am in the middle of this with one of my foster dogs Sad. I have more than one crate so have him with me for a lot of the time. I took the crate into the garden this afternoon but he is now in the kitchen with me. He will come into the sitting room with us for the evening etc.

We have done a lot of crate games and clicker training. He has to earn all his food for his meals from tricks etc, He has a bone to help fill up some of the time

Put squeezy cheese or similar and biscuits in the kong. That will keep him occupied for a while .

Today he has learnt to lip lick and to rest his head in my hand......he is now shattered and fast asleep Smile

Small is possibly too stupid/stubborn for tricks. I'll give it a bash though.

I did clicker training, bones, chews, kongs with frozen raw chicken or frozen dog food in them...it was hard going, but actually easier than I thought it might be.

I bet you he can do them, give him a yummy reward and use a clicker.

What are his injuries etc? Mine has had a knee op so can not move rear leg So his training is pretty static.

Head rest is a good one and calms the dogs
He naturally has been licking his lips when I give him his kong so I began to click that.

He has learnt to hold articles, dumbells, wooden spoons, plastic bottles (very useful - not!) Also to give on command

I have used this video to help give me ideas in the past - your little guy will end up a genius at the end of this Smile

Fill Kongs with banana and peanut butter and freeze.
