We are going to get our 1 year old dog neutered, the vet has said it won't calm him down at all but friends of ours have sad it did calm their dog down.

Our dog was done at about 10 months ,the only thing that changed was the constant humping . He certainly didnt get any calmer / quieter .

My last dog was done at 7 months (rescue and part of the adoption agreement) He was quiet that day, other than that he carried on exactly as normal, lol.

Ours was done at about 8-9 months.

Nothing has changed - still as mad as a box of frogs.

HaveToWearHeels · 28/05/2013 15:04

Nothing changed at all.

Sometimes it does make a big difference, lets them focus more without distractions. Not worth doing just for that though as in no way guaranteed but all sorts of other benefits.

Ours was done at 6 months. He bounded out of the vet's holding kennels, leapt over the reception desk and mugged the nurse for a gravy bone Grin He didn't even stay sleepy for a few hours.

Stopped humping his bed and no longer smelt quite so disgusting. But that's all. He was a wuss before, and still is! Grin

My Doodle held a grudge for 2 days before giving in. Still as thick as shit but he was always a wuss.

Staffy is calmer and more focused. Recall improved immensely that they can be let off lead around the woods and fields for sniffs!

Didn't get mine done until he was three. Didn't change him. Still humps legs when he see an opportunity! Grin
