Dog rocks anyone?

I really wish I'd taught my dog to wee in one place when he was small but I didn't and now there are several burn marks on the lawn. A friend recommended dog rocks.

I've just bought a packet (£13 for 3) and put one in his drinking water. Does any one know if one will be enough? They are quite expensive and need changed every 2 months.

Male dogs cock their leg up against an unright object, not normally on the lawn?
Occasionally, a few squat like a female if neutered, but it is not common.

Never heard of dog rocks, what are they made of?

I've used them and can't see any difference in the lawn

My male dog doesn't cock his leg, he stands four square with a thoughtful look on his face

We are now trying the tomato sauce in the food idea.(as recommended on MN)

He has been neutered and squats to pee, unless on a walk when he cocks at every flipping gate and lamp post.

Reading off the packet they are naturally occurring paramagnetic igneous rock. They remove nitrates and tin found naturally in water. Blimey should I put them in my own water

Our dog is similar to gemmas.

We used dog rocks for many months, keeping the rocks in a jug (so they had time to infuse the water) and refreshing his bowl from that rather than leaving them in his bowl so he didn't carry them round the house

I'm afraid they made no difference whatsoever.

We put one or two in the water and our boxers were 'excuse me, whats this in the water?'

We must have used three packets in total but like WhereBe says, they made no difference.

Just to make you all smile, when we went to pets at home to buy the dogs rocks, I honestly thought you had to train the dog to pee on the piece of rock.... 'how on earth are we going to manage that?' I asked DH...cue the assistant saying with a smirk 'no, you put one in the dogs water!'

That's funny gemma I should have asked before I bought the damn things, so I guess one isn't enough. My dogs a lot smaller than a boxer so fingers crossed. It's not just the bald patches on the lawn it's the extra long grass around the bald patches that are really annoying !

OP at you taking them. And the extra long grass round the bald patches? So his pee that sprays the edges is a powerful fertilizer and direct piss in the middle like acid??
I have a little female and females are supposed to have grass exterminating pee - my DM's one certainly destroyed hers.
But I am not fenced in so take her for walkies 3 times a day where lots of other dogs go, and she wees about 30 times in 30 minutes. She even cocked her leg up the lampost yesterday after sniffing at it intently for ages, and otherwise slightly cocks one while crouching on the other. Other times she lifts her backside as high as she can then lifts one leg under her to reach the highest leaves so doesn't crouch as would be too low for the bit she liked the smell of higher up

We have been using Dog Rocks for almost a year now, and we've had great results. we use a whole pack in each water bowl - and sometimes put them in a jug when we have our friends dog round as she likes to take them out...

We have two female dogs who were destroying our lawn with their pee and these really seem to have done the trick. :)

My mother in law recommended them to me as she's had great results also..

When you say one pack per water bowl ... do you mean you have to put a new packet into every bowl of water?

Stupid question, probably ... but I honestly don't know the answer!

I'm wondering if I could bottle ArseDog's wee and use it as a weedkiller on the allotment - it certainly does the job on any living thing in the garden.

I guess it means the whole pack (3 rocks) in their drinking water and then you keep topping up the water. The rocks need replaced after 2 months.

You have to make sure your dog doesn't drink any other water - tricky as mine often drinks from puddles.

Putting a dessert spoon of Tomato Ketchup in their dinner worked for us. Neither Mutt or Rott Dogs burnt the grass once we started doing that - a lot cheaper than dog rocks (that RottDog tried to eat).

Hi Bumbez. Just noticed your post re: Dog Rocks. I use them for our pet water bowls and to start with did the same as you i.e. just putting one rock from the pack into the water - but it didn't work.

After ringing Dog Rocks, I discovered that you actually need to put the entire pack worth of Dog Rocks into the water, regardless of how many rocks are in the bag. After doing this I have found our lawn to be much better.

Also, I don't like the idea of using tomato ketchup in the food because it's acidic - surely continually giving dogs lots of acid isn't good for them?
