I think my 7 month old beagle puppy ate some 32mg prednisolone tablets on Monday.

I found some glass after our cleaning lady had been on Mon, and I couldn't place it. However, I just looked behind something next to his bed only to find more glass and some white stuff which must be the remains of the tablets. Will this do him harm? I'm trying to get in touch with the cleaning lady to find out what happened - it could be she picked most of them up but I don't know.

The puppy's been weeing loads since Monday and I didn't make the connection What should I do?

Phone the vet and ask if you should do anything, they should be able to tell you over the phone.

Prednisolone is prescribed to dogs - so it's not poisonous or anything at the right dose and to be honest I'd think after 2 days if there was anything to be done it's too late anyway.

But I'm not a vet, so I'd talk to yours just to double check.

Some 32mg tablets sounds a very high dose I would speak to your vet ASAP. Only very rarely do we prescribe up to 25mg and that would be a big dog.
This could precipitate an acute iatrogenic addisonian crisis so if I was your vet I would be doing bloods.

Thanks both of you - I spoke to the vet who called the Anti-Poison Crisis centre and she was told that as it's a one off that our puppy should be fine. He's still really thirsty and weeing lots, but the vet said that should improve after a few days. I have to say that he was quite full of beans today, after having been quite lethargic for the last couple of days.

I cannot believe that we didn't realise what had happened. I was awake most of last night worrying about him, but his behaviour today is a good sign I hope. Thanks again
