thundershirt and travel sickness

So I took the plunge and purchased an overpriced thunder shirt for my anxious dog to see if it helps with his travel anxiety. On long journeys I usually purchase tablets from the vets but at a cost and one lot have to be taken 3 days prior to travel. This means planning travel well in advance and costs. It is a shame he has never been to the seaside or many walks to places such as the lake district etc. I had read reviews on the thunder shirt but it did seem pricey for a bit of lycra and velcro but I've decided I need to try and help him get over his issue. We already drive 5 minutes to the local woods for walks so short drives followed by a positive thing (walk) is usual but not helping much. I just wanted advice on how to get the best out of this garment and anything any dog owners had found useful with their car sick hound!
