Do you put your puppy in bed at night?

We seem to have got in the habit of putting him in bed like a baby. Not sure if we should so he gets the idea or if we are making work for ourselves later on. He sleeps under the stairs and we shut the doors to the other rooms so he cant wander at night and then we go to bed. Are we being daft?

DH wanted to go to bed early the other night but then said we cant't, the dog isn't in bed!

Sounds like our bedtime routine , ours sleeps in the hallway and the routine is out for last wee,refill water , into bed with 2 gravy bones ,all doors closed ,lights out.

Ah we are both mad then!

Except my 'puppy' is 3 at the start of June !

Mine goes to bed with me

Dpuppy has his last wee, and then goes into his crate with a blanket over it like a budgie [bugrin].

My older pup takes himself off to bed about 9 ish.

If he needs a pee in the night he nips out the cat flap,and then back to bed.

In the morning DH goes to work early o'clock so pup comes and gets on the bed with me when DH leaves.

He set his own routine but it seems to work,bless his little furry paws.

If its cold mine get a hot water bottle and blanket over them aka 'tuck ups' at night. We are stupidly soft.

I was thinking about the cat flap thing linked to his microchip so we don't get any visitors. Getting a bit fed up with the morning poo that greets me each day and I get up really early but it is always there.

My dog is 3.

From puppy she goes to bed when we go . She knows the routine - TV goes off - out in garden for a wee (her not me ), she trots back in - straight on her bed and I give her a couple of small dog biscuits , lights out, door to kitchen closed.

Thats it until morning when we come downstairs.

Will the poo and wee in the night just magically stop then? He seems to put out far more than he puts in.

No, I just wake up to presents in the morning.

I'd say try going to bed really late and getting up really early for a few days and then starting to stretch it out once he's holding on ,unless you want to get up and let him out in the night ( I never did that ) . Also perhaps adjust what times you feed although I'm not sure how quickly food goes through such a small dog.

Thanks, I am going to try taking the food away now, he has just eaten and no drink after 7pm.

I think you should leave water down all the time ,but I know there was a thread on here about that a while ago that got a bit heated ,so that's just my opinion . Good luck with it .

It seems what ever I do he still conjures up a poo and wee in the night. Goodness knows where he gets them from!!

He is still quite young how late is he going out for his last chance to go ?

ours go out for wee, into the utility. A bonio each and I say night night! This is the cue for them to settle down.

Last wee 10.30 - 11pm or even later if DH is still up.

At the weekend it may be worth trying midnight or later and then up at 5.30/6 to see if that makes any difference .if it does then after a couple of nights you can start stretching it out .

My has a bed in the lounge but then at bedtime he comes upstairs with us to his bed on the landing. He has a cuddly giraffe which he snuggles up with (amazingly the only soft toy that he has never destroyed and he's had it since he was pup.) He also has an old dressing gown which we cover him up with. Ruby and Pugoff - glad it's not just us who are soft as mush!

Our comes up to bed same time as us. My DH surrounds his bed with the spare pillows off the bed and he lays on top of my DDs dressing gown. I then lay mine on the floor and he puts his head on it and goes to sleep. When my DH leaves for work he climbs on to my bed and gets up when I am doing my hair, (he sits on my knee) and then he goes out.

So we are all big softies then by the sounds of it!
