Boxer or border collie?

Almost on the point of going to see some boxer puppies but dh says he'd still prefer a collie.

Dcs are 14 and 9. I am at home most of the time.

Which would be best?

I own collies but work closely with boxers :) I'd say boxers are more likely (generally) to adapt to family life. Looking at the age of your kids, I'd still say boxer, because within 10yrs they are likely to leave home, and you might change your lifestyle - a boxer will cope, but a collie is much less likely to. A 10yr old boxer will be happy to go with the flow, but a 10yr old collie is going to be a bit more set in its ways, and won't be slowing down any time soon :)

oh i can relate to the chickchick. I have just had a plumber here and he said how old are you little dogs? (he had a collie too) and I said 'that one is nearly 11 and..' before I could finished he said Shock 'bloody hell, she VERY spritely isnt she?!' :o

Hey. I have a 10year old boxer. She is beautiful. So loving. But it is true or at least from my experience that she has been hard work. She has terrible separation anxiety so when we go out she escapes. Literally chews through the wire fence or if left inside jumps through windows. We love her but it was been stressful. Now she’s old we were looking to get a puppy to keep her company and just for the kids ect we were looking at a boxer (crazy people but just love their faces and silly personalities) but my husband wants a collie and I found a blue merl collie. Expensive! I’m sad but excited and nervous to try a different breed of dog. It is a live commitment adding a member to your family :)

@lainiekazan

I like exuberance... but I am a small person and maybe a big exuberant dog would see me haring all over town dragged at the end of a lead...
My bil and sil have a bc. He’s a lovely dog most if the time, but sil is small and she can’t walk him. Also the dog sees his rank Between bil and sil. And he barks. A lot.

Sorry op only read first page but if you think labradors are thick you are going to stuggle with a boxer.........

What can you offer the dogs, the livestyle will be very different with a collie to a boxer?

Grin

I don't know why it was bumped but yes, I wouldn't have recommended either breed tbh!

Flaunch · 01/09/2021 08:28

Neither unless you’re up for a LOT of walking.
