Toilet training overnight.

Dog is now 20 weeks and pretty much trained during the day, no accidents for weeks now (touches wood).

We have 2-3 dry nights a week and some of those she's gone 9 hours so I know she can physically do that.

We've always left paper down at night and dh thinks its now a habit because the papers there and that if we take it away she won't wee. I think she's maybe still a bit little.

What does everyone else reckon?

How old were your dogs when they went a whole night?

Mine was 9 weeks but I have to stress that he was very easy to toilet train full stop and I am an insomniac so our nights are probably shorter than most peoples. It is more like 5 or 6 hours.

Mine was dry overnight at 16 weeks ,which was 1 week after we got him . I am a firm believer that putting paper down delays house training ,so in essence I agree with your husband.

Maybe we should try it then, I've nothing to lose except a wet floor Grin

SpicyPup was crated at night and clean through the night from 9 weeks. At 20 weeks she is definitely able to hold it but won't bother if there is paper out so I also think DH is right.

Okay, going to thoroughly clean the floor of any smells etc and go for it tonight - will report back!

I wouldn't stress about it if it doesn't work she is still young and like a child has a short attention span and won't always "plan ahead" Wink

Yes that's what I think, that she's so little still but will give it a go for a couple of nights Smile

And her only plans involve chasing the cat and stealing sausages lol!
